Position description

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of McGill University invites applications for a new tenure-track faculty position in the field of Women’s Health research. This position is ranked as an Associate or Full Professor and will hold the Robert Kinch Chair in Women’s Health. The incumbent would establish a strong, externally-funded research program, provide research training to graduate students and residents, and play a leadership role in Women’s Health research across the Department.

The Department trains academic Obstetricians and Gynecologists for the province, country, and international community. The Department provides comprehensive evidence-based care of the highest quality in an effective and efficient manner and pursues excellence in research.

Research is an integral part of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The Department’s investigators represent a variety of disciplines ranging from basic science to clinical and epidemiological research. The Division of Reproductive Biology includes 6 investigators studying the cellular and molecular basis of mammalian reproduction and embryonic development, oocyte development, germ stem cells, and Wnt signaling in endometriosis. Clinical research interests include reproductive endocrinology, infertility, maternal-fetal medicine, gynecologic oncology, and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. Epidemiology research is conducted by 2 epidemiologists addressing perinatal epidemiology, reproductive epidemiology, and perinatal mental health.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

The ideal candidate for this position will hold a PhD in epidemiology, public health, social sciences, or a related field. Candidates with research interests in benign gynecology including infertility, contraception, menopause, uterine fibroid, or endometriosis are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants should demonstrate the ability to independently manage a research program with a capacity for fostering collaborations with local, national, and international researchers, as well as clinical colleagues and community partners. The incumbent should have an excellent track record of peer-reviewed funding and publications, and evidence of an international reputation. The candidate should also have demonstrated leadership experience and strong oral and written communication skills.

Job Duties

• Develop a robust research program related to Gynecology.

• Obtain peer-reviewed operating grants and salary support from funding agencies such as FRQS and CIHR, or other appropriate funding agencies.

• Disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications, and other knowledge translation and exchange activities.

• Provide research training to residents and graduate students.

• Play a leadership role in expanding Women’s Health research in collaboration with scientists and clinicians at the University and affiliated hospitals.

• Strengthen interactions within the Women’s Health research community across the University.

• Seek funding opportunities to catalyze novel research teams and training initiatives in Women’s Health.

• Advise the Department Chair on research strategy and hiring priorities and serve as a member of the Department’s executive committee.

 

McGill University is situated in the heart of downtown Montreal, one of the most cosmopolitan and diverse cities in North America, and the extensive campus is located at the edge of splendid Mount Royal.

The Department is affiliated with the MUHC Reproductive Center, the largest university fertility center in Quebec with around 3,000 new visits per year. The mission of the Department is to provide medical students, residents, fellows, and the local community of obstetricians and gynecologists the programs and learning environment to stimulate their curiosity and creativity and to develop the professional skills and human qualities required to deliver specialized care in Women’s Health. The Department aims to pursue new knowledge with research programs encompassing basic science, epidemiology, clinical investigation, health service studies, and evaluation of technology and clinical care delivery systems.
