The Department of Anesthesiology of Columbia University seeks an accomplished academic anesthesiologist to lead the division of adult cardiothoracic anesthesiology (ACTA).
The ideal candidate will be an academic physician accomplished in the areas of clinical care, resident/fellow education, and research. The candidate will be expected to encourage and support the scholarly activity of faculty and fellows within the division and maintain the current exceptional level of clinical care and collegial interactions with surgeons, cardiologists, and perfusionists. This leadership position is supported by extensive departmental educational support, including a state-of-the-art simulation center, administrative support, and research funding for pilot projects from within the department, as well as within the institution. Significant start-up funds are available to support the growth of a successful research program.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to recruit new members to the ACTA faculty and fellowship and foster a scholarly environment. The department commitment to scholarly activity is reflected in extensive programs in clinical and basic research, an accredited ACTA fellowship, and protected research time for qualified individuals.
Columbia’s ACTA division provides the anesthesia services for patients undergoing cardiac surgery, thoracic surgery, structural heart interventions, and electrophysiology procedures, as well as perioperative transesophageal echocardiography services. Columbia University Irving Medical Center has large and successful programs for heart and lung transplantation, adult congenital heart disease, pulmonary thromboendarterceomy, lung volume reduction surgery, thoracic aortic disease, ventricular assist devices, ECMO, and catheter-based structural heart interventions and performs more than 2,000 cardiac surgery cases each year.
Qualifications: The candidate must be ABA board certified or eligible or hold equivalent certification and be eligible for medical licensure in the state of New York.
