PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:

This is a medical position with the responsibility for the specialty of medical science concerned with the management of pregnancy, labor and birth including the physical, emotional, and social health of women.  Obstetrical/Gynecology care encompasses the management of complications during pregnancy, birth and postpartum. The OB/GYN physician works closely with the Center’s Medical Director, Primary Care Administrator and management of the Corporation to ensure that competent care is provided to our patients. The OB/GYN physician must have the welfare of their patients as their primary concern.

The OB/GYN Physician is expected to:

  1. Focus on women’s health including care related to pregnancy and the reproductive system.
  2. Gather essential and accurate information; perform a complete history and physical examination; provide routine preventive health services; and order appropriate diagnostic studies.
  3. Make informed diagnostic and treatment decisions; analyze and synthesize information; know one’s limits of knowledge and expertise and obtain appropriate consultation as needed.
  4. Assess, diagnoses, treat general health problems related to the obstetrical/gynecological medical condition, as appropriate.
  5. Develop and carry out patient care medical treatment, prescribe and perform procedures on a timely manner.
  6. Counsel women throughout their pregnancy, from giving prenatal diagnoses to delivery and postpartum, as needed.
  7. Provide services such as annual gynecologic exams, including Pap smear test and breast exam.
  8. Counsel women in contraceptive management, sexually transmitted infections, abnormal Pap test treatment, acute and chronic medical conditions.
  1. Define accurately the women’s health status as well as to serve as a consultant and to make use of other specialists as consultants. Work cooperatively with the Medical Director, the Primary Health Care Administrator and other applicable organization departments with all issues regarding women’s care, confidentiality issues and with protected health information as patient care team member. Participate in the peer review process, as requested.                                     Work collaboratively with other clinic staff as a member of the patient care team. Integrate the clinical protocols and current guidelines established by health agencies or professional organizations such as the American Academy of Obstetrician, the American Board of Obstetrician and the Advisory Committee of Immunization Practices, in keeping with CHN’s Quality Improvement Plan and Policies. Create and sustain a therapeutic and ethically sound relationship with patients. Will provide on call services as needed. Be available for periodic hospital calls or hospital emergency room coverage, as required by the hospital as a condition for obtaining hospital admitting privileges. Must comply with requirements for EHR documentation based on policies and procedures including updates received via email, trainings, staff meetings, and other written communications.

Education:    A.     Possess a Medical Degree from an accredited university program.

 

B.        Successful completion of OBG-GYN Training.

 

C.        Board certification or Board eligible in OBG-GYN.

 

License:           Evidence of current Professional License, DEA Registration.

 

Certificates and other training requirements: HIV/AIDS 104 Basic training Education, CPR, Medical Errors, Domestic Violence and other necessary training required to maintain the Professional License.

SPECIAL SKILLS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

The obstetrician must use sound clinical judgment; possess humanistic qualities; have a professional attitude; demonstrate moral and ethical behavior; must be able to use compassion and creativity in reaching solutions to the problems presented; willing to learn.

  1. Demonstrate competence in accordance with established medical standards involving the OBG-GYN discipline that deals with the biological, social, and environmental.
  2. Demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills that result in effective exchange of information, collaboration with patients, their families, and professional associates.   4.   5. Demonstrate ability to use other information resources to support patient care decisions and patient education.
  6. Demonstrate evidence of current clinical privileges in hospital nearby the clinic location. Maintain clinical records in compliance with agency, state, federal, Joint Commission, Medicaid, and other standards, guidelines and regulations. Comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, including the HIPPA Rule and all other confidentiality laws; and with all accreditation standards.
  7. Comply with CHN’s Compliance Plan and adheres to Center policies and procedures and communicate with the Medical Director.
  8. Comply with all credentialing and privileging standards. Comply with all Federal Torts Claims Acts (FTCA) standards and procedures.
  9. Comply with CHN’s referral arrangements with hospitals, specialty, medical, diagnostic and therapeutic providers.
  10. Demonstrate a commitment to carry out professional responsibilities. Adhere to ethical principles and demonstrate sensitivity to diversity.
  11. Provide hospital admitting privileges at a local hospital and on-call services as needed.
  12. Demonstrate ability to navigate, update and input clinical information in client’s             electronic health record once training is completed.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

  1. Report to work as scheduled.
  2. Documentation demonstrates that the OBG-GYN physician gathered essential, accurate, and historical information about the patient when making a decision about diagnostics and therapeutic interventions based on patient information and preferences, as evidenced by peer reviews.
  3. Administrative and peer review evidence supports that the OBG-GYN demonstrates competencies in six major areas: patient care; medical knowledge; interpersonal communication skills; professionalism; practice-based learning; client’s improvement, and system-based practice.
  4. No complaints as evidenced by good interpersonal and communications skills, humanistic characteristics, and professional attitudes and behaviors that are critical components of providing effective clinical care. Documentation supports evidence that the clinical record is appropriately completed without a Notice of Incomplete Documentation from the Medical Records Department. Physician documentation is legible and client information is found to be complete in the client’s medical record, as evidenced by peer reviews.
