Position start date: January 1, 2020
Closing date: September 1, 2019

The Department of Internal Medicine, Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba, St. Boniface Hospital Research Foundation, and the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority’s (WRHA) Cardiac Sciences Program (CSP) are seeking a clinician-scientist (MD or MD/PhD) or scientist (PhD or equivalent) to fill the above-endowed research Chair. The Chair is designed to provide salary and/or operating funds to pursue independent research in the study of cardiovascular diseases, which is a priority of the Department of Internal Medicine and the St. Boniface Hospital Research Foundation. Major areas of research include: i) Population health, outcomes research, and prevention policy; ii) Translational research and metabolic studies in heart failure; and iii) Cardiovascular bioinformatics.

Candidates must have a strong track record in cardiovascular research, as reflected by publications in high impact journals and ongoing peer-reviewed funding from national granting agencies. They must have a strong record of mentoring young clinicians and basic scientists, as well as training postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and research associates. They are expected to foster the training of clinicians and scientists and to promote and strengthen research interactions with other clinical and basic researchers within and outside the Department of Medicine and St. Boniface’s Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences.

This is a geographical, full-time, contingent position commencing January 1, 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter, for a term of five years, renewable for a second term contingent on a successful performance review. Salary and rank will be dependent upon qualifications and experience. Cross appointment to a basic science department is possible, and some restricted clinical activity to ensure a clinical profile is desirable if the candidate is a clinician, but a minimum of 75% time devoted to research will be expected.

A successful MD or MD/PhD applicant must have Specialty qualifications in Internal Medicine and Cardiology in the country of current practice and must be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba.

WRHA’s CSP serves a population of over 1.3 million in Manitoba, Nunavut, and Northwestern Ontario.
