The New Mexico VA Healthcare System in Albuquerque NM is Recruiting a Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Plastics Surgeon, Anesthesiologist and Ophthalmologists to Help Care for Our Veterans – America’s Heroes.

Position Information:

The New Mexico VA Healthcare System (NMVAHCS) in Albuquerque NM, a Level 1 tertiary 310-bed facility in the heart of the "Land of Enchantment" and referral center for New Mexico, Eastern Arizona and Colorado, is recruiting for Board Certified / Board Eligible Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Plastics Surgeon, Anesthesiologist (Operating Room) and two Ophthalmologists (Cornea and Glaucoma Specialists).  The Albuquerque Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) maintains 180 acute hospital beds which includes a 26-bed Spinal Cord Injury Center, a 90-bed residential rehabilitation treatment program, a 40 bed Domiciliary and Nursing Home Care Unit. The NMVAHCS has a major affiliation with the University of New Mexico School of Medicine (UNMSOM) with 122.1 resident full-time equivalents currently rotating through 33 clinical residency training programs. Faculty appointment, commensurate with physician’s training and experience, will be considered along with opportunities to participate in basic research and resident/student teaching. 

We are accepting Physician interest for the following NMVAHCS Surgical & Anesthesia Service positions. All Physician candidates must be U.S. Citizens and possess current, active and unencumbered U.S. State Medical or Surgical License to practice.

  • Cardiothoracic Surgeon – Candidate must be BC/BE, Fellowship-Trained and possess qualifications and interests in Endovascular Cardiac Surgery, Esophageal, Mitral Valve Repair, TAVR, Valve & Arrhythmia Surgery, Complex Valvular Heart Disease, Heart Failure, Thoracic Aortic Surgery, Thoracoscopic Lung Resection and Mediastinal Surgery.  The expected range of salary will be $200,000 – $400,000 and may include consideration for Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) that could provide up to $200,000.00 in eligible school loan repayment.
  • Anesthesiologist (Operating Room) – Candidate must be BC/BE Anesthesiologist and possess Cardiothoracic Anesthesia Fellowship training, experience and qualifications to perform the full scope of General and Surgical Anesthesia, including regional anesthesia, ultrasound guided techniques, transesophageal echocardiography and full range of perioperative care and other major complex surgical cases. The expected range of salary will be $200,000 – $400,000 and may include consideration for Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) that could provide up to $200,000.00 in qualified school loan repayment.
  • Ophthalmologist (2 Positions for Glaucoma and Cornea Specialist) – Candidate must be BC/BE Ophthalmologist with Fellowship Training and qualifications in Corneal and/or Glaucoma Eye Diseases and have at least 1-2 years’ experience in the care and surgical treatment of complex cornea and glaucoma diseases.  The expected range of salary will be $275,000 – $325,000 and may include consideration for Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) that could provide up to $200,000.00 in eligible school loan repayment.
  • Plastics and Reconstructive Surgeon – Candidate must be BC/BE in Plastics Surgery with Micro Vascular Surgical Drafting training, qualifications and experience, to provide full scope of Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery specialty practice. The expected range of salary will be $300,000 – $370,000 and may include consideration for Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) that could provide up to $200,000.00 in qualified school loan repayment.
