Description 

The Residency Program Director for Emergency Medicine is a key member of the Department of Emergency Medicine reporting to the Vice Chairman of Academics and Research and Chairman of Emergency Medicine. In this role, the Program Director is responsible for the administration of our established Emergency Medicine Residency Program.  Our residency is a 3-year format and has 42 residents (14/yr).  The program is an affiliated US Army residency and approximately half of our residency class are active-duty Army.  The department has extensive educational support including: a state-of-the-art medical simulation laboratory, human and animal tissue labs, Education Innovation Institute, and Center for Ultrasound Education.  Our research section is supported by 2 PhD researchers and 2 research assistants.  The clinical time commitment will be in the Emergency Department (ED) at Augusta University Medical Center.  Our ED sees approximately 90,000 patients annually and includes both adult and pediatric emergency departments: Level 1 Trauma Adult, Level 2 Trauma Pediatric, Comprehensive Stroke Center, Certified Chest Pain Center.  The department has multiple innovative programs including: a dedicated Emergency Psychiatry service, an Emergency Department Critical Care Center (EC3) along with a busy Tele-Emergency and Tele-Critical Care service, all housed in the Department of Emergency Medicine. 

Requirements 

  • MD or DO degree with board certification in Emergency Medicine. 
  • Experience in administration/educational leadership positions and teaching residents.  
  • Strong organizational and managerial skills.  
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills.  
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively & work with members of the academic & clinical community.  
  • Strong service orientation and commitment to teamwork.  
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in interpersonal and group communication that reflect a commitment to cultural diversity. 
  • Evidence of scholarly works and research experience.
  • Prior GME experience preferred.
  • Prior military experience preferred.
