Academic Surgical Pathologist

The Department of Pathology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is pleased to announce a new recruitment for additional academic surgical pathologists. We are inviting applications from qualified candidates at all ranks for a full-time, tenure earning/tenured position through the Department of Pathology, School of Medicine. The candidates should have an M.D. (or M.D., Ph.D.), Board Certification in Anatomic Pathology, and be eligible for a license to practice medicine in Alabama. The successful candidate beyond starting Assistant Professors should have a national reputation in academic pathology and a track record of a competitive basic, translational, and/or clinically focused research program. Subspecialty expertise in Gastrointestinal, Head and Neck or Pulmonary pathology will be favorably considered.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is an outstanding tertiary care institution currently processing over 60,000 surgical pathology specimens per year. The Surgical Pathology Section in the Division of Anatomic Pathology includes approximately 25 faculty members with expertise encompassing the entire spectrum of subspecialty areas (Gynecologic Pathology, Breast Pathology, Gastrointestinal Pathology, Urologic Pathology, Head and Neck Pathology and Musculoskeletal Pathology and Perinatal Pathology). Faculty are noted for multidisciplinary, academic productivity and national leadership. The Surgical Pathology section maintains an active Surgical Pathology fellowship program along with subspecialty fellowships in Dermatopathology, Gastrointestinal Pathology, Gynecologic Pathology, Urologic Pathology and Molecular Genetic Pathology. A strong diverse research portfolio in translational investigations is conducted by the faculty along with a quality teaching program.

A pre-employment background investigation is performed on candidates selected for employment. In addition, physicians and other clinical faculty candidates who will be employed by the University of Alabama Health Services Foundation (UAHSF) or other UAB Medicine entities must successfully complete a pre-employment drug and nicotine screen to be hired.
