Division Chief, Pediatric Cardiology

The Department of Pediatrics at Stanford University is seeking a Chief for the Division of Pediatric Cardiology.  The successful candidate will be a recognized leader in pediatric cardiology and will be responsible for the supervision and development of clinical services, education, and research activities for members of the Division, both within the Department of Pediatrics and other relevant areas of the Stanford School of Medicine, the Stanford Health Care system including Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford (LPCHS), and its partner sites.  The Chief of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology will also be appointed as the Director of the Betty Irene Moore Children’s Heart Center.  The Director works alongside the Executive Director and the Executive Administrative Director to lead the Heart Center.  Appointment will be at the level of Associate or Full Professor and will occur either within the University Tenure Line or Medical Center Line professoriate.  Faculty rank and line will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.  The typical candidate would be board certified in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology.  However, individuals from other disciplines with comparable and compatible experience, including those trained outside of the United States, will also be considered.

  • The predominant criterion for appointment in the University Tenure Line is a major commitment to research and teaching.
  • The major criteria for appointment in the Medical Center Line shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.

The activities of the Division are wide-ranging and include cutting-edge clinical care, research, and education on the Stanford University campus as well as subspecialty clinical care in partner sites in California and other states in the Western US.  Currently, there are > 50 faculty members with a primary academic appointment in the Division, six fellows per year in the ACGME-accredited categorical fellowship training program (18 total), six fellows per year in one-year advanced fellowships, and ten dedicated administrative staff members.  The Division is a core component of the Betty Irene Moore Children’s Heart Center.  In addition to faculty in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology, the Moore Children’s Heart Center has over 250 dedicated faculty and staff members including 10 pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons, 11 pediatric cardiac anesthesiologists, three radiologists specializing in advanced cardiac imaging, and 200 dedicated cardiovascular nurses and advanced practice providers.  Our world renowned team cares for children with some of the most complex congenital and acquired heart diseases, and our pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons perform approximately 1,000 heart surgeries per year at LPCHS and partner sites.  The Division also participates in the education of pediatric residents, pediatric critical care fellows, and pediatric cardiac anesthesia fellows in ACGME-accredited training programs, as well as undergraduate, medical, and bioscience graduate students in degree programs at Stanford University.

Applications will be reviewed beginning immediately and accepted until the position is filled.
