Unit Director - Adult Emergency

UCSF Health is seeking a Unit Director of Adult Emergency. He or she will be involved in ensuring optimal patient outcomes through effective leadership and / or provision of patient care delivery in assigned nursing unit(s) or area(s). Promotes environment for a shared voice in nursing practice and exchange of ideas to continually improve nursing and patient care outcomes.

Accountable for the quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness of patient care.

Consults and collaborates with other health care professionals to coordinate the management of patient care. Serves as a resource to staff, physicians, students and others.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Nursing
  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
  • Active American Heart Association ACLS Certification
  • Active American Heart Association PALS Certification
  • Progressive and recent nursing administration and leadership experience in Emergency Services in an academic medical center (within the last 5 years) 
  • Strong hospital management experience, with progressive and in-depth expertise in patient care services; knowledge of hospital / clinic operations in a hospital or medical center setting; knowledge of appropriate professional standards for the department and team
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills to foster and promote an environment for effective communication and collaborative decision making across multiple units and disciplines
  • Excellent leadership, fiscal and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management and staff from all disciplines; ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration and excellence in patient  outcomes 
  • Strong knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes
  • Strong knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments
  • The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations

Licensure/Certification

  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
  • Active American Heart Association ACLS Certification
  • Active American Heart Association PALS Certification

Department Description

The Emergency Department at UCSF Medical Center provides care to patients with urgent medical conditions ranging from complex problems such as heart attacks and strokes to simple but pressing conditions such as cuts and broken bones. Care is provided 24 hours a day, serving more than 40,000 patients a year.

Our team includes board-certified emergency medicine specialists, nurses trained in emergency and critical care and other specialists who are called upon as needed in areas such as gynecology, neurology, obstetrics, orthopedics, pediatrics and surgery.
