The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), a component  of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is seeking exceptional candidates for the position of Deputy Director, Center for Translation Research and Implementation Science (CTRIS). NHLBI is a national and international leader in heart, lung, blood, and sleep disorders.  The CTRIS Deputy Director position offers an exciting opportunity for scientific and managerial leadership in an integrated program of T-4 translational, clinical, and implementation science research, as well as public health and education directed towards global health and health inequities (both domestic and global) in heart, lung, and blood diseases.

Responsibilities will include: providing scientific leadership, in conjunction with the Director, in a Center that has responsibility for planning, fostering, and supporting research to identify the best strategies for ensuring successful integration of evidence-based interventions within clinical and public health settings; representing the CTRIS Director at high-level NHLBI, NIH, and external scientific meetings with other federal, state, non-governmental and international agencies; developing clinical practice guidelines with partners and conducting research on the science of implementing evidence-based health interventions; and working closely with the NHLBI divisions, offices, and centers to serve as a strategic focal point at NHLBI for advancing implementation research in the U.S. and at the global health level.

LOCATION:   Bethesda, Maryland 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  The NHLBI seeks candidates who have a commitment to scientific excellence and the energy, enthusiasm, and innovative thinking necessary to lead a dynamic and diverse organization.  The ideal candidate will be a leader who has demonstrated experience in setting, planning, implementing and analyzing program objectives and priorities and should have the demonstrated ability to manage financial and human resources and coordinate a research portfolio involving extensive internal and external collaboration.  They must be a leader who is experienced in giving presentations nationally to broad audiences, including researchers, policy makers, and the general public.  Applicants must possess an M.D. and/or Ph.D. and have senior-level research experience and knowledge of research programs in one or more scientific areas related to public health systems science, late stage translational research, implementation research, global health research, or research in health inequities.   The successful candidate will be known and respected within their discipline, both nationally and internationally, as an individual of outstanding scientific competence.  This position will be filled under a Title 42 (f) excepted service appointment.

SALARY/BENEFITS:  The Deputy Director, CTRIS will be appointed at a salary commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience.  A recruitment or relocation bonus may be available, and relocation expenses may be paid.  Full Federal benefits, including leave, health and life insurance, long term care insurance, retirement, and savings plan (401K equivalent) will be provided.  The successful candidate is subject to a background investigation and public financial disclosure report prior to the effective date of the appointment.
