The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair of the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health. The Department has a proud and rich combination of academic activities and service contributions. Since its founding, the Department has systematically built clinical, research, and educational programs that have become deeply integrated into the fabric of Penn Medicine’s academic and clinical programs, the University and the community.

The Chair of the Department directs 33 faculty members and nearly 114 professional and support staff. The practice provides over 54,000 outpatient visits a year, with more than 20,000 active patients, 6,200 new patient visits and admits approximately 5,000 inpatients. In addition, the Department’s attending and resident physicians are an integral part of the care teams at 5 community clinics and students support 4 student-led community clinics.

Qualified candidates are those who hold MD, MD/MPH, or MD/PhD degrees and are qualified for faculty appointment as Associate or Professor level in the Standing Faculty of the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Applicants must be a respected active practitioner with a distinguished national/international record of research. Candidates should possess dynamic leadership skills, administrative expertise, and a clear commitment to – and excellence in – the education, sponsorship, and mentorship of students, residents, fellows and faculty. We seek candidates who embrace the value of diversity in the delivery of patient care and the enhancement of innovation in research. The applicant must have the demonstrated ability to foster strong collaborations among investigators within the Department, as well as with the larger research community on campus, and to promote outreach to the community. The candidate should articulate a compelling vision for the future of the Penn Medicine Department of Family Medicine & Community Health, the role of a clinical department within a highly regarded academic medical center and the field of Family Medicine & Community Health in general. A strong interest in fundraising is desirable.
