University of Iowa Health Care (UI Health Care) seeks a dynamic, experienced and distinguished executive to serve as its next Chair of Pediatrics, Carver College of Medicine and Physician in Chief, Stead Family Children's Hospital. This is an extraordinary opportunity for the next Chair to elevate research, advance the academic mission and expand integrated pediatric clinical care at one the nation's leading academic medical centers and elite Children's Hospitals.

University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UI Hospitals and Clinics) is the clinical arm of UI Health Care and provides the full spectrum of specialty and subspecialty care that draws patients from Iowa, the region and around the world. UI Hospitals and Clinics employs over 9,000 FTEs, and the medical staff includes more than 1,000 clinical physicians from the Carver College of Medicine. In 2017, UI Health Care opened a new $360 million, 14-floor, children’s hospital - adding 134 pediatric beds and 507,000 square feet to the UI Hospitals and Clinics’ main campus.

The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics currently includes over 150 faculty, a three- year pediatric residency and 11 subspecialty fellowships. It is home to one of the top academic departments, with over $12 million in funding from the NIH. The completion of the Stead Family Children's Hospital positions the department for growth and ensures a commitment, now and into the future, to pediatric care for the children of Iowa and the region.

Required qualifications are:

Board Certification in Pediatrics and licensure or eligibility for licensure in the state of Iowa.

A minimum of five years demonstrated leadership achievement in a large volume, high- performing, contemporary Department with comparable complexity to the University of Iowa (UI), Department of Pediatrics and the Stead Family Children's Hospital.

Progressive administrative leadership experience in an academic medical center environment and Department of Pediatrics.

National recognition for achievement in clinical, educational and/or research pursuits that would warrant a tenured appointment.

Record of accomplishment for developing a research infrastructure and extramural funding.

Excellent administrative experience and financial acumen.

Demonstrated experience advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment for transparency, effective problem resolution, collaboration, accountability, and ethical decision-making.

Desirable qualifications include:

Strategic thinker who moves creatively in a dynamic marketplace and within health care that may require flexibility to change direction in response to these market dynamics.

Demonstrated ability to engage the community through philanthropy to support education, research, clinical and service missions.

A strong advocate for the Department, who negotiates well across all levels of the organization to support the Department's objectives.
