Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth Tenure-Track Faculty Position In Molecular and Systems Biology

The Department of Molecular and Systems Biology at Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to join major initiatives in molecular biology, systems biology and bioinformatics.  Exceptional candidates at senior rank may also be considered. The Department of Molecular and Systems Biology offers a dynamic and interactive environment, with a commitment to research and teaching excellence. Dartmouth faculty members benefit from highly collaborative and collegial interactions across campus, inclusive of both foundational and clinical departments at Geisel, as well as with the Schools of Arts & Sciences, the Thayer School of Engineering, and the Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies at Dartmouth.

We seek outstanding applicants with the capacity to direct an independent, vigorous and innovative research program using approaches that may include computational systems biology, bioinformatics, genomics, epigenomics, metabolomics, and especially involving single-cell analyses, to understand complex problems related to cell and developmental biology, regeneration, or neuroscience and behavior.  Candidates should excel in both didactic and laboratory-based teaching.

A generous start-up package as well as access to state-of-the-art research facilities will be provided. Individuals will be given opportunities for mentorship and teaching of students in relevant PhD graduate programs (e.g., Program in Molecular and Cellular Biology, Program in Quantitative Biomedical Sciences, and the Program in Experimental & Molecular Medicine). Training grants (e.g., Molecular and Cellular Biology Training Grant and the Burroughs Wellcome Fund Big Data in the Life Sciences for Unifying Population and Laboratory-based Sciences Training Grant) are available to support trainees in areas relevant to successful candidates.

The successful candidate may, as appropriate, also benefit from associations with the Center for Quantitative Biomedical Sciences (CQBS; supported through a recently awarded Center for Biomedical Research Excellence, COBRE, mechanism); the Neuroscience Center at Dartmouth; the Norris Cotton Cancer Center (NCCC; one of 47 NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers); Dartmouth’s supercomputing networks (e.g., Discovery); Dartmouth’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSA; called Synergy); and three other NIH-sponsored COBREs in Biomolecular Targeting, Molecular Epidemiology and Cystic Fibrosis.

Dartmouth is highly committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive population of students, faculty, and staff. We are especially interested in applicants who are able to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from all backgrounds, including but not limited to: racial and ethnic minorities, women, individuals who identify with LGBTQ+ communities, individuals with disabilities, individuals from lower income backgrounds, veterans, and/or first generation college graduates. Applicants should state in their cover letter how their teaching, research, service, and/or life experiences prepare them to advance Dartmouth’s commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Candidates should hold a Ph.D., MD or equivalent degree and relevant postdoctoral research experience.  Applicants should upload a cover letter, curriculum vitae, research statement (not to exceed 3 pages), and a teaching statement to:  https://apply.interfolio.com/66603 and ask three referees to provide letters of recommendation.

The Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth is located in the neighboring towns of Hanover and Lebanon in the picturesque Upper Connecticut River Valley on the NH and VT border. Dartmouth is surrounded by a vibrant, academic and professional community offering excellent schools, lively arts, and an unmatched quality of life in a beautiful, rural setting. Amenities associated with urban areas in Boston MA, Burlington VT, and Montreal, QC are all within a few hours’ drive.

Screening of applications will begin on September 15,  2019 and continue until the position is filled.
