Qualifications:

Currently licensed and registered as a professional nurse in the State of New Jersey.
Minimum of one (1) year experience in a geriatric facility as a licensed nurse.
Demonstrated competence as a nursing practitioner.

Responsibilities:

Coordinates resident care on assigned unit in accordance with policies and procedures.
Maintains a physical, social and psychological environment conducive to the welfare of residents.
Documents in the resident's record according to Documentation Guidelines including all mandatory documentation.
Initiates and maintains a care plan on all residents according to policy.
Coordinates nursing assistants' assignments daily.
Makes daily rounds, seeing every resident daily.
Identifies significant changes in the conditions of residents and reports same to supervisor immediately.
Reports all accidents to supervisor immediately and completes required documentation.
Calls physician directly regarding residents and keeps supervisor informed.
Evaluates nursing care provided for each resident and requests in-service for staff as needed.
Gives report to nursing assistants at beginning of shift and receives report from them at end of shift.
Coordinates nursing rehabilitation program on assigned unit.
Interacts with physician coordinating nursing needs with medical orders.
Identifies potential infections, completes infection report and submits it to Infection Control Officer.
Completes 24-hour report as per guidelines.
Monitors unit for compliance with Infection Control practices.
Continually observes, supervises and evaluates quality and quantity of care given by staff members.
Assists with orientation of new personnel.
Participates in in-service programs and staff meetings.
Communicates with other shifts regarding resident care to maintain 24-hour continuity of care.
Identifies problems occurring on all shifts and refers to supervisor.
Maintains professional atmosphere on unit.
Completes nursing assistant accountability/assignment at beginning of month and makes corrections and updates as needed.
Monitors completion of accountability records by nursing assistants.
Monitors mealtime and assures that meals are maintained according to facility policy.
Reviews 1&0 records for completion and for adequate hydration of residents.
Interprets philosophy, objectives and policies of the facility to staff, residents, relatives and visitors.
Maintains responsibility for the safety and well-being of all residents, employees and visitors.
Reports all unsafe conditions and faulty conditions and completes an appropriate repair request.
Acts as liaison between unit and other departments.
Conducts staff meetings to clarify matters such as policies, interpersonal relationships and lines of authority, and documents same.
Evaluates annually, or as necessary, performance of nursing staff and makes recommendations for hiring new staff and promotions.
Counsels and disciplines nursing staff/may provide disciplinary action:
Collects, analyzes and evaluates data for purpose of determining validity for counselling, complaints and/or grievances.
Participates in grievances/arbitrations.
May immediately suspend and/or require staff to clock out and leave the facility for such unacceptable actions as drunkenness, fighting, patient abuse, refusing an assignment, insubordination, etc
Performs all duties of staff nurse as necessary.
Performs other related duties.
