Description:

The Department of Pediatrics of the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria (UICOMP) seeks Pediatric Ophthalmology candidates for a position as Assistant/Associate/Professor of Clinical Pediatrics.  The candidate must hold a MD/DO degree, be BC/BE in Ophthalmology, successfully complete an AAPOS approved fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and hold or be eligible for an Illinois physician license.  This is a faculty position and, as such, requires clinical care, teaching medical students and residents, research, and scholarly activities.

The position will provide clinical consultation services for pediatric patients in the Children’s Hospital of Illinois (CHOI).

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Seeing pediatric ophthalmology patients in clinical setting.
  • Seeing adult patients with strabismus.
  • Seeing inpatient pediatric patients at the Children’s Hospital of Illinois.
  • Screening and treatment of premature neonatal patients for Retinopathy of Prematurity.
  • Participate in teaching medical students, residents and other health professionals.
  • Perform other duties of a University faculty member including committee assignments, curriculum development, student counseling and administration.

Clinical activities of the faculty are primarily concentrated at our pediatric ophthalmology office (a hospital outpatient department with dedicated staff) and at CHOI, which is the primary pediatric teaching facility for UICOMP and includes a 132-bed facility that offers over 50 pediatric programs and services.  These programs represent over 100 pediatric sub-specialists in 24 different disciplines, including the largest pediatric surgery program in Illinois.  CHOI is the only full service tertiary hospital for children in downstate Illinois.  Its highlights include a Level III neonatal intensive care unit, a pediatric and adult congenital heart disease program, Illinois Perinatal Center, and its designation as a Level I trauma center.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD/DO/MBBS or equivalent.
  • 1 year internship, 3 years ophthalmology residency and 1 year AAPOS approved pediatric ophthalmology fellowship.
  • Board Certified/Board Eligible in Ophthalmology or ability to work towards BE within 5 years.
  • Eligible for licensure in Illinois.
  • Clinical experience in the field of pediatric ophthalmology highly desirable.
  • Experience in teaching medical students and residents in the area of pediatric ophthalmology.
