Job Description

The MCPG Communication and Results Nurse provides clinical and administrative assistance in the delivery of patient care during the clinic hours of operation and assisting with patient cases remotely during non-clinic hours. This role reports to Music City PrEP Clinic Management and directly assists Medical Providers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Help contact and release lab results to patients. Schedule and provide treatment. The Communication and Results Nurse is able to act with maximum independent discretion, making decisions and acting on their own without having to wait for provider approval.

  • Answers patient calls and questions from patients inquiring about symptoms and diagnoses, as referred via Communications, and from the dedicated RN line for patients
  • Refers patient calls and questions to the appropriate Provider
  • Serves as a backup to Lab/MAs and Phlebotomists as needed
  • Facilitates patient flow along with the Clinic Manager and Providers
  • Checks lab results and communicates medical results and other information to patients in a timely manner
  • Helps provide oral and injectable treatment
  • Schedules patients for appointments and treatments
  • Documents communications with patients regarding symptoms and diagnoses
  • Manages the Electronic Medical Records system, including taking appropriate action such as monitoring Medical Provider in-boxes, responding to communications and transferring documents to correct locations
  • Acts as first-line of communication with the Metro Health Department as needed and properly and promptly acts on information provided
  • Provides general Medical Provider support and assistance
  • Works with Clinic Managers and Medical Providers to implement and maintain clinic policies and procedures
  • Maintains patient confidentiality according to the clinic's policies and procedures and HIPAA guidelines
  • Completes initial preliminary testing, preparation and information gathering with patients and communicates results to the Medical Provider on duty
  • Contacts PEP patients for follow-up procedures and communications at 30 day or 45 day periods
  • Completes any other duties as assigned within the staff member's training and experience


Required Qualifications:
  • Currently active RN license in good standing and authorized to practice in Tennessee.
  • Able to work on-site at Music City PrEP Clinic during all hours that the clinic is open.
  • A bachelor of science in nursing (BSN), or a diploma from an accredited and an approved nursing program.
  • Must have the ability to observe, document, and communicate lab-related issues, and to exercise independent judgment, well-informed decision-making, and problem-solving
  • Must demonstrate good communication skills, interpersonal skills, team-building skills, and professional demeanor


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two years direct patient care experience
  • Working knowledge of infection control and universal precautions
  • Working experience with acquiring and processing lab specimens
