Job Description
Scope

The Staff Nurse promotes the mission, image, and values of Greenview Place by exhibiting professional and ethical work practices. Specifically, the staff nurse is responsible for performing duties that provide and maintain quality of life for the residents. The staff nurse supervises the CNAs on duty and is accountable for nursing care provided directly by the staff.

The Staff Nurse must:
  • Maintain an nursing license in good standing.
  • Maintain a CPR and AED certification.
  • Work with the Director of Wellness to implement and maintain the Healthcare Program that ensures quality care to every resident.
  • Assess and establish records and Nursing chart for residents when they are admitted.
  • Oversee CNA duties: provide and document medication reminders, assist with personal care services such as bathing and dressing, monitor residents during meals and deliver meals to rooms as directed, assist at the front desk, do laundry and housekeeping services as scheduled,
  • Work with staff to ensure that high standards of care and customer service are delivered 100% of the time.
  • Ensure that resident Nursing charts are accurate and up to date.

Responsibilities

RESIDENT CARE
  • Assess residents and make recommendations for care. Provide care as required. Report changes in physical or mental status to the resident's physician.
  • Perform the staff nurse duties: physician prescribed care, assessments, inventory and dispense prescribed medications, daily census, and prepare medication for delivering upon arrival from the pharmacy. Make healthcare decisions as needed hospitalization,
  • Complete the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI, and the Resident Service Plan (RSP), which includes all required documentation in Admin. Code 146.245. Implement the resident plan of care
  • Oversee the SARA alert system to respond to resident needs during nursing shift.
    • Provide quality healthcare services: caring attitude and communication with residents, the careful handling of physical and mental healthcare experiences, quick response times, excellent listening skills.
  • Coordinate services with managed care companies, healthcare providers and suppliers who service community residents.
  • Advise management personnel to be aware of resident health issues for which they may need to observe and report or take specific actions.

STAFF AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
  • Supervise Wellness staff, including their performance as a team member; and individual performance of daily duties and responsibilities, attitude, and compassion with residents.
  • Perform tuberculosis and COVID testing for residents and staff.
  • Complete and distribute the daily census as directed by the DOW.
  • Conduct shift change report with CNAs at change of shift times.
  • Complete supply ordering and storage as directed to ensure required supplies are always available.

CUSTOMER SERVICE
  • Work as a role model for staff by taking ownership of the resident and their family's wellness experience by acknowledging and completing each interaction 100% of the time.
  • Ensure all employees greet residents with a smile and maintain a positive attitude during their resident experience.
  • Promote a positive customer service experience by maintaining a clean work environment, wearing proper uniform or attire, required ID badge, and appropriate grooming.
  • Address resident concerns and work to achieve resolution within 24 hours. Report results to the resident personally.

LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT
  • Motivate the staff team to provide excellence and diligence in carrying out their duties.
  • Maintain professional competency by participating in continuing education, personal growth seminars, classes, and conferences.

  • Ability to effectively handle stressful situations and work well under pressure.
  • Ability to handle resident complaints and issues including situations where others may be angry and/or upset.
  • Must have the ability to read, write and follow oral and written direction in the English language at a level adequate to perform the job duties.
  • Must maintain and encourage a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that promotes cooperation and positive, memorable experiences for co-workers, managers and others with whom contact is made.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is subject to walking and standing for extensive periods of time; and frequently stoops, kneels, crouches or crawls, pushes, pulls, grasps and feels. The employee frequently is required to use manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination when handling cooking and cleaning equipment. The employee is required to have corrected vision and hearing within normal range. Work schedule may include morning, evening weekend and holiday shifts.
Employee must be able to walk or stand continuously lift or carry weight up to 40 lbs., occasionally lift or carry weight over 50 lbs., transport residents using wheelchair or wheeled cart, assist residents to walk, help residents to bathe, lift and/or move equipment or furniture to assist in resident comfort,
deal with residents in emergency situations, including lifting, moving or restraining them, perform CPR, and otherwise provide "hands on" resident care, and be able to engage in frequent bending, reaching, twisting, stooping, pushing and pulling. Employee is subject to assisting and working with residents and handling medical/office equipment. Employee must have corrected vision and hearing within normal range. Occupational exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious substances, including communicable diseases when performing resident care and services. Occupational exposure to cleaning agents and disinfectants. Healthcare and residential environment. Work schedule may include morning, evening weekend and holiday shifts. Employee must also be able to perform basic office functions, including using a computer keyboard or touchpad and telephone.
