Registered Nurse - Infection Preventionist Summary

We're looking for a registered nurse to champion our infection control and in-service operations at Greenfield Health & Rehabilitation Center! The Infection Preventionist is a critically important position responsible for maintaining a rigorous degree of safety throughout the facility and provides staff with the knowledge and skills needed to deliver the highest quality of care. Registered Nurse - Infection Preventionist Role & Responsibilities
  • Is responsible for developing a system for preventing, identifying, reporting, investigating, and controlling infections and communicable diseases for all residents, staff, volunteers, visitors, and any other individuals providing services under a contractual arrangement and following accepted national standards.
  • Ensures compliance with regulations and requirements from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and any other accrediting healthcare organizations and state regulations.
  • Systematically collects, analyzes, and interprets health data in order to plan, implement, evaluate, and disseminate appropriate health practices.
  • Conducts rounds in order to monitor infection prevention practices with staff and collect infection data from all departments.
  • Maintains records for each case of healthcare-associated infection, conducts outbreak investigations and trains staff on implementation of infection prevention practices such as isolation, barrier precautions, etc.
  • Determines type and duration of any isolation making it the least restrictive to the resident as possible while maintaining proper infection control practices.
  • Conducts ongoing review of policies, procedures, and guidelines to identify infection prevention discrepancies and implements revisions.
  • Interacts with all Medical and Nursing staff, Department Heads, Supervisors, Employee Health, and other professional/non-professional staff to provide resource information, resolve infection prevention and control issues, and identify new opportunities to improve services and reduce cost.
  • Works with all Departments and staff, and independent practitioners to effectively apply policies and procedures that will ensure compliance with the CDC, CMS, all local, county, state, and federal regulatory and/or accrediting agencies.
  • Develops reports and statistical data to be shared with Administration and other committees as needed as well as reporting any and all possible incidents of communicable diseases to local, state, or national agencies.
  • Coordinates the Infection prevention program throughout the facility, implementing the program by evaluating policies and procedures related to patient care infection prevention measures.

Must be able to:
  • conduct analysis and formulate conclusions
  • identify occurrences, reservoirs, incubation
  • periods, periods of communicability, modes of
  • transmission, signs and symptoms, and susceptibility
  • associated with the infectious disease process
  • interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests
  • differentiate between colonization and infection
  • differentiate between prophylactic, empiric, and
  • therapeutic uses of antimicrobials

Must be able to use information management systems for:
  • data entry and retrieval
  • data collections and organization
  • data analysis and evaluation
  • required reporting
  • integration of diverse sources of data

Registered Nurse - Infection Preventionist Requirements
  • Registered Nurses should have a broad level of experience including critical care, emergency medicine, and medical/surgical.
  • Five years of relevant clinical experience for non-nurse applicants.
  • Previous long-term care experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in applied clinical science - Nursing, Microbiology, Epidemiology, Medical Technology, or Public Health. Certification in Infection Prevention and/or Master's Degree in nursing, epidemiology, public health, or related field is helpful. If an RN, must have current NYS license.
