POSITION SUMMARY
Under supervision of licensed nurse, provides routine nursing care to residents. Assists
as needed with activity of daily living (ADL) to insure that assigned residents are clean,
comfortable, properly dressed and well groomed at all times. Assists assigned residents
with meals and snacks. Treats residents with kindness and respect. Encourages
residents to maintain independence and self-confidence by offering choices whenever
possible. Understands and promotes "Residents Rights".
SPECIFIC DUTIES

• Receives report on assigned residents at the start of shift. At the end of work period
gives updated report to charge nurse.

• Keeps call button within reach of resident.

• Answers lights and requests promptly.

• Supplies residents with fresh drinking water in clean pitchers.

• Assists residents with shower, shampoo, nail care, oral hygiene, dressing and grooming.

• Transports assigned residents to and from activities.

• Positions and turns bedfast residents every two hours.

• Assists residents with ambulation.

• Assists resident with toileting.

• Assists with restorative nursing and rehabilitation programs.

• Keeps residents' rooms neat and attractive.

• Restrains residents if directed by supervisor, observes, releases, exercises and
records as directed.

• Documents the following:
Activities of daily living (ADL)
Weights and vital signs
Measures and records intake and output
Use of restraints
Bowel movements
Percentage of food eaten

• Completes twelve in-service hours per year.

• Related duties as assigned by supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & QUALIFICATIONS

• Current unencumbered AZ C.N.A. license required

• Current Fingerprint card

• Current valid CPR certification required

• Previous Nursing Assistant experience providing direct care to multiple
patients/residents preferred; previous experience in Skilled Nursing environment
desirable

• High school diploma or equivalent required

• Ability to interact tactfully, effectively, and professionally with other employees,
residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general
public, as needed

• Must be able to relate to and work with physically and/or mentally ill, disabled,
elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within facility and treat them
with respect and consideration regardless of their cognitive or functional level

• Ability to understand and follow applicable regulations, policies and procedures fully
and consistently

• Willingness and ability to function as an effective team member through good
communication and cooperation to meet departmental goals

• Must demonstrate flexibility and ability to adapt to change

• Ability to organize, prioritize and meet deadlines

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and be discreet

• Must be able to multi-task and handle pressure

• Must be able to follow instructions and to accept feedback

• Must be able to operate departmental equipment, as appropriate

• Willing to work beyond normal working hours, weekends, holidays, and/or on other
shifts and in other positions, when necessary

• Must be knowledgeable of nursing/medical practices and procedures, and/or
terminology, laws, regulations, and the guidelines that pertain to long-term care

• Must be able to read, write and speak the English language sufficiently and
comprehensibly enough to perform the essential functions of the job
