SHIFT 2: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (20 HOURS PER WEEK)
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Under the general spervision of the Director of Laboratories, this individual manages the general pathology and Cytology practice, provides guidance to the residents of Pathology Department and performs a full range of services as assigned.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
* Supervise and instruct residents/fellows on service of general surgical/biopsy, intraoperative consultation, Cytology diagnosis and consultation, and complete cases in required TAT at KCHC.
* Supervise and instruct residents/fellows performing autopsy and sampling proper and adequate tissue for histology examination, and complete the autopsy report at KCHC in 60 working days.
* In charge of organizing daily surgical case review conference (consensus conference) on the absence of surgical service chief/director.
* Attend joint Pathology Conference with other service for case presentation and discussion.
* Participate in Residents' Teaching Sessions - General Pathology, Cytopathology, or Autopsy.
* Involve in processing of surgical pathology service management and quality improvement.
* Participates in internal/external quality assurance, performance improvement activities and programs, departmental and team/committee meetings, and facility-wide training as needed.
* Serve as faculty member of SUNY at Downstate and engage in medical student teaching, and Interview residency and fellowship candidates.
* Take anatomic/clinical pathology and autopsy on-call duty as assigned.
* Participate in other clinical activities as requested by service director.
Department Preferences
Completion of accredited residency/fellowship in the specialty and subspecialty, and AP/CP, and cytology boards certified.
Responsibilities
Assignment Level I
Physicians Practicing General Medicine
1. Graduation from an approved school of medicine; and
2. Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in New York State.
Physicians Practicing in a Specialty Area
1. Graduation from an approved school of medicine; and
2. Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in New York State; and
3. Current Board Certification issued by the appropriate American Specialty Board.
Assignment Level II / III
Physicians Practicing General Medicine
1. Graduation from an approved school of medicine; and
2. Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in New York State; and
3. Five (5) years of full-time licensed experience as a physician practicing general medicine acceptable to the Medical Board of the hospital.
Physicians Practicing in a Specialty Area
1. Graduation from an approved school of medicine; and
2. Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in New York State; and
3. Current Board Certification issued by the appropriate American Specialty Board; and
4. Five (5) years of full-time licensed experience as a physician practicing in her/his field of specialty acceptable to the Medical Board of the hospital.
