Administer and direct a vibrant and nationally-recognized echocardiography program spanning a large inpatient tertiary care center at Barnes Jewish Hospital and three busy cardiology outpatient clinics at the Center for Advanced Medicine (CAM), CAM – South County, and the Heart Care Institute – West County. The incumbent will also have expertise and actively participate in all modalities of echocardiography imaging, including 2-D transthoracic, transesophageal, 3D, and stress echocardiography. Interventional echocardiography experience is desirable. The director will lead a section of five core echocardiography faculty and interface with many other faculty members who also participate in the echo service. He/she will work closely with hospital and clinic administration, and teach and supervise sonographers, cardiology fellows and other trainees.


The Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine, at Washington University School of Medicine is conducting a search for an Associate Professor or Professor of Medicine to lead the Echocardiography Section at Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University School of Medicine to succeed Dr. Julio Perez, who lead the section admirably for 42 years. The candidate should be an MD or MD/PhD with Level III echocardiography training and considerable experience in all modalities of echocardiography. Proficiency in TEE guidance during transcatheter valve therapies is highly desirable. The candidate should be board-certified in Cardiovascular Disease (ABIM) and echocardiography (NBE).


Our echocardiography laboratories are equipped with state-of-the-art imaging systems performing routine 2D and 3D echocardiography, and strain imaging studies under continued endorsement by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC). Approximately 120 studies are performed daily, comprising transthoracic, transesophageal and stress echocardiography. The echocardiography group also is integrated with clinical activities related to structural heart disease and transcatheter valve therapies, electrophysiology procedures, and training of Cardiology Fellows. Experience in leading clinical imaging research or echocardiography core laboratories is desirable. A competitive compensation package for the ideal candidate is planned.
