Director, Child/Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship

The Department of Psychiatry at the University Hospitals and Clinics is seeking a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist to lead its ACGME-accredited Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship. The candidate will join a progressive and growing child and adolescent psychiatry division. The overall philosophy of this academic division is the provision of family-centered care to each patient/family dyad seen in our inpatient and outpatient settings, in conjunction with our highly-regarded and well-established postgraduate training program.

The responsibilities of the Fellowship Training Director include but are not limited to:

Leading the recruitment and retention of fellows inside and outside of our institution

Monitoring the fellows and supervising faculty at UIHC and any other training sites. This includes evaluation of the fellows and supervising faculty as well as facilitating fellow and faculty development programs. This also involves the development and implementation of performance improvement plans when needed for fellows and supervising faculty.

Assuring the fellowship policies and procedures are consistent with ACGME, UIHC GME, and Department of Psychiatry requirements

Responding to all ACGME and UIHC GME requirements regarding annual program updates, annual reviews, development of program improvement plans, and implementing changes necessary to stay in compliance with the ACGME and UIHC GME policies and procedures.

Clinical work for this position will be performed in conjunction with the wide range of service already provided by the division. Our outpatient child psychiatry setting provides the opportunity to work with patients independently or with a resident physician, in specialty or general patient populations. Attending physicians also rotate as one of two child psychiatrists on our 15-bed inpatient child and adolescent unit. This role is a team leader of an inpatient multidisciplinary team that includes child and adolescent psychiatry fellows, general psychiatry residents, medical students, nurses, social workers, psychologists, educational consultants, and rehab therapists and cares for a stimulating and diverse patient population. This team leader would be responsible for approximately 8 inpatients. The last setting consists of providing child psychiatry consultation to the newly opened University Family Children's Hospital and Emergency Department. All members of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry faculty group share weekend and holiday coverage of the inpatient/consult service in conjunction with a postgraduate trainee (weekend coverage occurs approximately 4-5 weekends per year).

We will work closely with the candidate to optimize his/her time to work in any preferred area of interest. We will also aid the candidate, if so desired, to develop a specialty outpatient clinic or join existing specialty clinics which currently include assessment and treatment of patients with Tourette syndrome and tic disorders, autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, early childhood, telepsychiatry, school-based treatment, and anxiety disorders.

Education Requirement:

• Degree of doctor of medicine or osteopathy resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
• Physicians must have completed an ACGME-accredited psychiatry residency and child and adolescent subspecialty training.

Required Qualifications:

• At least 5 years of experience in a clinical setting post-training
• Previous experience supervising trainees
• Excellent leadership skills and abilities
• Demonstrated excellence in patient care and teaching
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Job-related experience with and/or commitment to diversity in the work environment

Certifications:

• Licensed or eligible for licensure in the State
• Must be ABPN board certified in child and adolescent psychiatry
