Responsibilities

Job Summary:

The Shift Supervisor is a Registered Nurse who is accountable for coordination of all care for a specific patient population on an assigned shift, in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act and the policies and procedures of BSA. The Shift Supervisor also has managerial responsibilities including, but not limited to, staffing, scheduling, employment development, and budget and performance improvement activities. The NICU Staff RN cares for the Neonate from Level II through Level IV, micro-premie at 25-weeks gestation to term 40-week both sick infants, infants with congenital disease processes or post-surgical babies.

Qualifications

Licenses and Certifications:

Current Texas RN license
CPR certified from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Previous Neonatal ICU or Newborn Nursery staff RN nursing experience required 3+ years preferred
Leadership and management skills in a healthcare environment
Excellent prioritization, evaluation, critical thinking and decision making skills for patient care
Broad knowledge base of newborn delivery, advanced resuscitation, preterm infants, infants in transition, term infants, post anesthesia recovery for infants, and assisting with newborn emergency management preferred
Experience with equipment specific to NICU: transport incubator, T-piece resuscitator, infant radiant warmer and incubator, infant cardiorespiratory monitors, phototherapy equipment, transcutaneous bilimeter, syringe infusion pumps, electric breast pumps, infant ostomy care products
Organized, self-motivated and flexible with exceptional follow-through skills
Computer skills necessary; EMR EPIC documentation
Multi-task constantly and tolerate multiple interruptions
Clear and effective communication with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals
Compassionate customer service skills
Committed to patient and family satisfaction
