Premier Veterinary Group in Orland Park is looking for a full-time Veterinary Technician to join our Medical Oncology Department.

The primary responsibility is to triage and provide care for patients presenting to and hospitalized with our Medical Oncology. The successful candidate embodies our culture in treating every client with the utmost courteous and attentive treatment possible, with a keen sensitivity to the emotional bond between owners and their pets. This is a 40 hour per week position. Participation in some holiday coverage is required.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide extensive client education on Medical Oncology issues including but not limited to disease processes, drug side effects, medication, and triaging phone calls
  • Administer IV and oral chemotherapeutics with proper handling utilizing a laminar flow hood/safety cabinet.
  • Obtaining and processing laboratory samples such as blood, urine, free fluid, and fine needle aspirates
  • Utilizing different modalities of imaging for patient assessment including radiograph, ultrasound and CT scan
  • Executing, monitoring, and recovering all assigned sedation and anesthetic events
  • Provide comfort and nursing care for all patients

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the above listed responsibilities satisfactory. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required.

Skills and Experience:
  • Chemotherapeutic handling and administration
  • General nursing care and treatment of patients
  • Administering and monitoring anesthesia
  • Assisting the veterinarian in procedures
  • Admitting and discharging patients
  • Client communication and education

Educational Requirements:
  • High School education or equivalent
  • Several years' experience of related job experience
  • Certification or licensing as a veterinary technician preferred
  • Experience with administering chemotherapy is preferred
