Job DescriptionOverviewRestoration Healthcare - a Southern California-based medical practice that is on a mission to restore hope and optimize the body's innate ability to heal from within through the compassionate delivery of functional medicine - has an immediate opening for a full-time Functional Medicine-minded Physician interested in using an integrative approach to medicine to diagnose and treat the root causes of chronic illness.
Working in a direct patient care capacity alongside other practice physicians and our Medical Director - who herself is a nationally-recognized osteopathic family physician with deep roots and expertise in functional medicine and the treatment of complex health issues - the Physician interviews and examines patients, assesses patients current and ongoing health, orders and interprets lab and test results, makes initial and ongoing diagnoses, determines and documents plans of care, prescribes medication and supplements, offers education, and updates patient records in our electronic health records platform.
Required Attributes:Like all positions within our values-driven practice, strong patient-centered orientation, a high level of curiosity and passion for functional medicine and integrative healthcare, and exceptional interpersonal skills (including active listening and inductive reasoning skills and remaining open to ideas and learning new things) are just part of what the Physician position requires. At least three years experience as a physician is required, as is board certification as a Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO). Other required attributes include excellent written and verbal communication skills (English), knowledge of body mechanics, a positive attitude, and the ability to work in an organized manner in a fast-paced team environment. Essential Job Functions:
- Work collaboratively with the medical director, other staff physicians, and front and back-office administrative and medical staff within the context and scope of practice for a physician in a Functional Medicine/Integrative Healthcare practice, to include:
- Interview and examine patients
- Assess patients current and ongoing health
- Order and interpret lab and test results
- Make initial and ongoing diagnoses
- Determine and document initial and revised patient plans of care
- Prescribe medication and nutritional supplements
- Offer education, encouragement, and support to patients
- Update patient records in the practice's electronic health records platform
- Work closely with team members to optimize the patient care experience
- Participate in quality improvement, continuing education, and in-service offerings
- Provide mentoring and/or coaching to Patient Care Coordinators, health coaches, Physician Assistants, Medical assistants, medics, and others working in the practice
Required Skills and Desired Proficiencies:
- Demonstrated ability to perform comprehensive initial and follow-up healthcare evaluations, diagnosis, and treatment
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound clinical judgment, including consulting with other practice physicians
- Demonstrated ability to always act in the best interest of the patient and to help patients make informed decisions related to their healthcare
- Ability to accurately code patient visits and provide thorough documentation using an electronic health records system
- Demonstrated ability to perform basic phlebotomy procedures and tasks
- Demonstrated ability to perform minor surgical procedures such as bio-identical hormone pellet insertions, trigger point injections, and major joint injections
- Demonstrated ability to maintain the confidentiality of patient information according to federal, state, and practice guidelines and regulations
- Proficient at researching, understanding, and adapting to medical office protocols
- Proficient using Microsoft Word and Excel, email, and electronic health records software
Education, Licensure, Certification, and Registration Requirements:
- MD or DO degree from an accredited U.S. medical school
- Valid California Physician license
- Current Registration Number from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for writing prescriptions for controlled substances
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
Required / Preferred Experience:
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience as a full-time physician in a family practice is required.
- Experienced in practicing Functional or Integrative Medicine is required.
- Training or certification from The International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society and certification or experience in Chelation Therapy is required.
- Board certification by the American Board of Physician Specialties, or additional training and/or certification from Institute for Functional Medicine, The International College of Integrative Medicine, The Academy of Integrative Health & Medicine or Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine is preferred but not required.
- Preferred experience with - or curiosity, interest and willingness to train - is required, for the diagnosis and treatment of chronic diseases, including but not limited to autoimmune disorders, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, degenerative neurological diseases, environmentally acquired illness, Fibromyalgia, gut dysbiosis, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, Lyme disease, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, multiple chemical sensitivities, neuropsychiatric disorders, and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome.
Required Physical Demands:
- Perceptive acuity and physical ability to perform all direct and indirect patient care functions including walking, sitting, standing, bending and light lifting is required
