Provides direct patient care in surgery. Provides assessment and planning for individualized patient care. Communicates with physicians about changes in patient's clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.

Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on infants, adolescents, and adults and reassessments per policy. Ability to assess neonate at delivery and perform neonatal resuscitation according to AHA guidelines. Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management. Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition. Follows the five medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors. Ability to formulate an individualized plan of care, revise plan as indicted by the patient's response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, spiritual needs of patient and family. Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures in surgery. Communicates appropriately and clearly to charge nurse, coworkers and physicians. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Education
Associate's degree required.
Bachelor's degree preferred

Required Licenses
Current Mississippi Registered Nurse license or a current Compact State Registered Nurse license is required.

Required Skills
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications are required within 90 days of hire or transfer.
