UH-CMC/CWRU Emergency Medicine Residency Assistant Program Director Job Description


The UH-CMC/CWRU EM Assistant Residency Program Director will support the development of a nationally renowned EM residency through fostering community, advancing educational best practices through innovation, and service to the program. 

Position Description

The UH-CMC/CWRU EM Assistant Program Director (APD) will work collaboratively with the Residency Leadership Team (RLT) to support and grow the EM residency.  They will support departmental policies and procedures in a way that maximizes clinical benefit to patients through developing a beneficial educational experience for trainees that delivers on the department’s educational mission.
The APD is expected to contribute to the successful execution of several key aspects of the residency program, including:

• Resident Growth & Support

o Serve as an effective educator at the bedside, in the classroom, and as a mentor to promote resident professional and personal growth.

• Programmatic Growth

o Spearhead the development of a systematic educational social media experience on the departmental website, twitter, and other social media platforms

• Curriculum Development

o Develop cutting-edge educational interventions for students, residents, and faculty to promote their growth in Emergency Medicine. 

• Educational Leadership

o Support the recruitment and selection of future residents through innovative approaches to recruiting future residents, applicant review, and interviewing.

o Support the assessment of residents in their preparation for autonomous practice in Emergency Medicine.

o Evaluate programmatic interventions to determine effectiveness of ongoing educational experiences.

o Support adherence to and reporting of ACGME programmatic requirements.
Lines of Report

The APD will report directly to the Residency Program Director (PD) as well as the Vice-Chair of Academics.  They are expected to work closely with the entire RLT to accomplish their roles and responsibilities effectively. The APD will also work closely with the department’s faculty members to support the development of teaching expertise across the Department of Emergency Medicine.

3. Serve as a model of clinical excellence among their learners and peers.

4. Exhibit strong skills in the domains of teamwork, problem solving, and interpersonal communication.

5. Exhibit a history of accountability and collaboration through completion of administrative tasks effectively.

6. Manifest leadership qualities befitting a representative of the UH-CMC/CWRU Department of EM to residents, staff, faculty, other residency programs, and administrative leaders in GME and the broader healthcare system.
