The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Children's Hospital New Orleans (CHNOLA) is recruiting an attending inpatient child and adolescent psychiatrist to be part of our team of psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, psychologists, music and activity therapists, and other multidisciplinary team members. Duties will include assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of children and youth ages 6 to 17 years in our 51 bed acute care inpatient psychiatry unit. Expertise in psychopharacology, psychotherapies appropriate for acutely ill youth during short term hospitalizations, psychoeducation, and family systems work is desired. Successful candidates should be comfortable partnering with pediatricians, community mental health providers, other care facilities, third party payers, government and child advocacy agencies for optimal discharge planning and continuity in systems of care. The inpatient units are in a new freestanding building on the campus of Children's Hospital New Orleans which just opened in April 2020.  Referrals come from the medical and emergency departments of CHNOLA, New Orleans, and surrounding areas throughout Louisiana and the Gulf South.   

 

Education and training of all mental health disciplines are integral to the CHNOLA mission.  We are the main inpatient training site for the child and adolescent psychiatry fellowships, triple board, general psychiatry residents and medical students at Louisiana State and Tulane Universities. In addition, inpatient psychiatrists work with students from other disciplines and their supervisors daily.  Successful candidates will have academic appointments at both LSU and Tulane, and all academic endeavors are valued and encouraged.  Career development according to the specific interests and abilities of the psychiatrist will be encouraged.

 

Attending call responsibilities are shared with a large team of other faculty child and adolescent psychiatrists.

 

Job Specifications: 

 

Education: 

 

Required:  MD or DO degree, completion of accredited general psychiatry residency and two year child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship, ABPN certifications in general, child and adolescent psychiatry

 

Experience: 

 

Required: 5 years post-fellowship

 

Preferred: 5-10 years post-fellowship

 

License/Certification: 

 

Required: Eligible for Louisiana state medical license; American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology certification in general, child, and adolescent psychiatry
