OPEN RANK FACULTY POSITIONS

The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine seeks clinicians, clinician-investigators, and investigators holding MD, PhD, or MD/PhD degrees for multiple faculty positions with open rank and tenure status. Rank, salary, and tenure status commensurate with experience and qualifications. Mid to senior level career investigators who have established independent research programs and demonstrated ability to obtain extramural funding are encouraged to apply.

Clinician and clinician-investigator candidates must be board certified or board eligible in radiation oncology and eligible to be licensed in Alabama. Candidates must have strong clinical knowledge, excellent communication skills, be highly motivated, and compassionate towards all patients.

The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham stands proudly among the nation’s leaders in the field. UAB Radiation Oncology offers a wide range of advanced treatment techniques in radiation therapy including triggered imaging radiosurgery, medical dosimetry, three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy, brachytherapy, external beam radiation therapy, image-guided radiotherapy, intensity modulated radiation therapy, radioisotope therapy, stereotactic body radiation therapy, total body irradiation and total skin irradiation. Individual faculty members maintain areas of specialty interest and strive for new discovery in these areas.

Research has been an integral part of the Department’s mission since its inception in 1969. Innovative faculty focus on providing exceptional patient care while striving to improve care through research for our future patients. Our research program teams together clinicians, physicists, laboratory scientists and physician scientists and uses a three faceted approach to advance our understanding and treatment potential for the field of oncology. Basic science, or “bench research”, examines the fundamental aspects of biological response to radiation. Clinical science, or “the bedside”, utilizes therapeutic interventions to help prevent and treat cancer in patients. Basic science discoveries can provide leads for future therapies while clinical observations can generate new questions for basic scientific inquiry.
