Vascular Surgery Chief

The Vascular Surgery Chief is responsible for all of the clinical, research, educational, philanthropic and administrative aspects including strategic planning and the financial performance of the Section of Vascular Surgery.  The Chief is the lead and liaison to the Department of Surgery as well as the collaborative practice in the University of Michigan Frankel Cardiovascular Center. 

The Section consists of 9 clinical faculty, 5 research faculty, 5 emeritus faculty, and a staff of 60.  There are 7 active professorships, with others in negotiation, in addition to other a large endowment in the Section and 4 endowed annual lectures.

The preferred candidate will have clinical duties in the area of vascular surgery.  Duties also include teaching medical students, house officers and fellows in clinical and didactic settings. Preferred candidate will be expected to establish an independent research program by successfully acquiring external funding as principal investigator, publishing and presenting results.

The ideal candidate should have an M.D. or D.O. degree and postgraduate clinical training. They should hold or have the ability to obtain the appropriate medical licenses in the State of Michigan as well as be board certified in Vascular Surgery. Candidates should be able to collaborate effectively with other clinicians. Excellent leadership and communication skills are essential. Evidence of clinical competence and competence in clinical and didactic teaching and research is expected.  Evidence of scholarly ability is necessary (robust record of successful acquisition of independent external funding, publications in relevant peer-reviewed scientific journals with first and senior authorship, presentations at scientific meetings/invited visiting professorships.

This position is posted as Associate Professor/Professor.  Rank of selected candidate is dependent upon qualifications.
