DIVISION OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES

WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY/WAYNE HEALTH

The Wayne State University School of Medicine (WSU SOM) Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases (ID) is seeking a Division Chief at the Associate or Full Professor level to lead our academic ID division. The ID division with its vibrant faculty, is deeply involved in population and public health, operating both the Detroit City STD clinic and TB clinic, operating the largest Ryan White HIV program in the State including a statewide HIV training center, and conducting a viral hepatitis program using federal, state and municipal funding. Both our University and the Wayne Health practice plan are committed to serving our community and enhancing research in the urban environment of Detroit and across Michigan. As our current division chief plans to step down after decades of service, we are looking for a new ID leader to build on the clinical, public health, training and research successes of the Division.

The ID Division conducts clinical research and provides care of persons undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and other immunosuppressed patients at the NCI-affiliated Karmanos Cancer Center. We provide infection control and antimicrobial stewardship services in addition to consultative care for our partner hospitals of the Detroit Medical Center and the Veterans Administration Hospital. A unique nationally recognized vaginitis clinic is a model of combined patient care and research and a planned clinic for non-tuberculous mycobacteria will supplement our TB program. The Division is deeply committed to excellence in teaching and training of WSU medical students, residents, fellows and other healthcare providers. Joining with the unique WSU Global Health initiatives, we provide opportunities in educational, scholarship and research activities in several countries. Epidemiological and clinical research, and implementation science opportunities are available in collaboration with WSU School of Pharmacy, Center for Emerging and Infectious Diseases, the Faculty of the Department of Microbiology/Immunology, WSU Public Health Program and the NIH perinatology branch on campus.

As an academic faculty member of WSU SOM, the successful candidate will join the Department of Internal Medicine and be responsible for the following:

• Oversee the division, by actively promoting the division in clinical care, research, and continuing medical education through programs that maximize exposure of our exceptional programs, faculty, and expertise.

• Oversee the day to day clinical service responsibilities in the area of infectious disease, through employment at Wayne Health.

• Teach and mentor medical students, residents and fellows.

•Recruit and retain existing high caliber faculty, staff, and trainees consistent with thedivision’s core mission of education, research, and clinical care.

•Develop and implement innovative mentoring and career development plans for new andcurrent faculty, toward development and growth.

•Provide responsible fiscal stewardship along with the Chair of the Department of InternalMedicine, and proactively seek entrepreneurial opportunities for the division.

•Evidence of scholarly activities as demonstrated by publications, and an activeextramurally funded research program.

•A commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning and patient care environment

•Administrative duties as assigned.

The candidate should be board certified in internal medicine and infectious disease, demonstrate interest, experience, and commitment to epidemiological, clinician and implementation research, and a record of service within the field of infectious disease on a national or international level.
