General Position Summary:

The Director of OB/GYN is charged with providing inspiring leadership for planning and oversight of obstetrics and gynecological medical protocols, procedures and programs and oversees daily operations of medical providers while working closely with administrative and operational partners to assure successful achievement of goals and objectives and financial sustainability. This dynamic leader is responsible for driving JHC Core Values and the culture of the department in supporting our mission and vision. The Director of OB/GYN is responsible for recommending and implementing clinical policies and procedures; supervising provider staff; insuring performance improvement activities in all clinical activities; and is an integral part of the leadership team of the health center, working collaboratively across functional disciplines to expand and improve access to quality care. The Director is responsible for community related engagement activities and serves as the "face" of JHC's OBGYN services to its partners, vendors and current/future patients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Patient and Clinical Duties
1. Communicates with patients, family members and community partners in a courteous and professional manner in face to face encounters and via the telephone.
2. Provides primary OB/GYN medical care to patients in accordance with medical specialty.
3. Refers patients requiring hospitalization or assessment and management of conditions to emergency department physicians or appropriate specialists.
4. Provides consultations for JHC patients that present at Lynchburg Generals Emergency Department.
5. Delivers patients' babies in Virginia Baptist Hospital, providing both obstetrical and gynecological care, and able to be on call on site at Virginia Baptist Hospital for one 24-hour period per week and one weekend a month or as the needs of the department require.
6. Receives & maintains local hospital credentialing & privileging approvals to manage all hospital level of care patients, including JHC patients and any non-JHC as necessary based on hospital credentialing & privileging processes & hospital agreements.
7. Diagnoses on the basis of clinical findings, laboratory and x-ray reports and/or the results of other diagnostic procedures according to approved protocols.
8. Performs other necessary clinical duties as required.

Leadership and Team Building
1. Provides exceptional leadership to OBGYN department and is able to adapt to a constantly changing healthcare environment and assist others to adapt in times of change, growth, challenges, etc. Models the way for others.
2. Is well-versed in overarching JHC strategies both internally and externally and is able to communicate in a positive construct across all areas of responsibility.
3. Leads innovative related discussions for OB/GYN as it relates to department centric goals that align with overarching JHC goals and objectives and is able to effectively communicate concepts, enhancements, changes, etc. to all related parties.
4. Sets a clear example of leadership that aligns with JHC Core Values across all departments at JHC and in the community served.
5. Assures quality, competent, daily staffing of OB/GYN providers. Participates in the recruitment and hiring process.
6. Develops department goals for providers annually.
7. Leads, coaches, monitors, and directs day-to-day activities of medical providers, along with creating annual department goals and holds staff accountable for positive, forward moving results.
8. Ensures department is in compliance with governing bodies and accrediting agencies.
9. Partners with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) on department design and needs, reviews and makes recommendations to CMO and Executive Leadership.
10. Manages department quality improvement through on-going leadership and evaluation of OB/GYN providers.
11. Develops, monitors and reviews departments productivity and customer service.
12. Participates with the Providers in the implementation of the plan of care and multidisciplinary patient education.
13. Completes all records, reports, and other documents as required by JHC.
14. Develop excellent working relationships with JHC staff and community partners.
15. Participates with the Provider in the implementation of the plan of care and multidisciplinary patient education.
16. Communicates with other members of the Patient Care Team regarding incoming patient data and reports that require patient notification and treatment interventions.
17. Consults with physicians and other members of health care team as necessary for clinical questions.

Administrative Duties
1. Represents clinical practices to the community board, county departments and agencies, and professional and community organizations.
2. Participates in community organization activities designed to positively impact community health disparities and behaviors.
3. Works alongside JHC leadership to establish and maintain academic partnerships with learning institutions.
4. Utilizes computer software including Microsoft Excel and Word, and eClinicalWorks.
5. Utilizes eCW to make appointments, to document telephone encounters, and patient visits.
6. Uses articulate and professional language in all eCW documentation and any professional correspondence.
7. Keeps patient records up to date with required documentation for Medicaid and other insurance providers.
8. Works with leadership team to develop and implement Johnson Health Center operations, policies, procedures and protocols.
9. Adheres to all policies and safety regulations established by Johnson Health Center.
10. Makes recommendation to the Chief Medical Officer regarding the employment, promotion, transfer, and discharge of all medical provider staff.
11. Attends all mandatory OSHA Infection Control trainings and follows general OSHA guidelines for infection control, including "Universal Precautions."
12. Abides by all JHC infection control policies, including acute response measures in the setting of a public health concern or disease outbreak.
13. Assures all FTCA requirements are met and up to date annually.

5. Keep professional licenses required for the position current and up to date. Obtain all continuing education required for license renewal.

Qualifications:

1. Possesses physician's license to practice medicine in Virginia with current certification by appropriate specialty board.
2. 5-10 years of proven related department leadership required.
3. Must be qualified in Basic Life Support techniques
4. Ability to supervise and lead clinical staff
5. Ability to analyze complex information and communicate effectively both orally and in writing and adapt to changing environments.
6. Ability to set priorities and make decisions on critical health care programs and issues.
7. Possesses personal and professional qualities to earn the confidence and respect of staff.

Physical Demand and Working Environment:

Sedentary work requiring lifting/or exerting force up to 25 pounds occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly moving objects. Work requires sitting, standing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and repetitive motions. Travel is required for this position as well as working weekends according to assigned call schedule. OSHA high risk position.
