Clinic Hours: Mon - Fri, 10-hour shifts

SUMMARY

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will be working collaboratively within the UT Southwestern Medical Center, Pediatric Otolaryngology division located at Children's Health, Dallas and Plano providing comprehensive care to pediatric patients with ear, nose and throat disorders.

This position will be a combination of inpatient consults, independent outpatient clinic visits and call. This position will demonstrate a high degree of critical thinking and clinical expertise in working with pediatric patients in the outpatient and inpatient setting. The APP is responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, education, consultation, and health promotion and care coordination for patients and families. APPs independently perform procedures including foreign body removal from ears/nose, cerumen management and endoscopies.

EDUCATION

Graduate of a Master's degree or higher Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) accredited Physician Assistant program.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

Certified by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) Certification required.
Licensed by the Texas Physician Assistant Board.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certified by the American Heart Association or Red Cross based on UT Southwestern policy for Advanced Practice Providers.

EXPERIENCE

One year of inpatient pediatric otolaryngology or pediatric surgical specialty experience.
New grads who complete clinical rotations in pediatrics, otolaryngology, critical care or surgery may be considered.
Experience with endoscopies, cerumen management, aspiration of abscesses, and foreign body removals.

Compliance with the COVID-19 vaccine mandate enforced by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) is a requirement for this position. Federal law requires individuals holding this position to be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption for certain medical, disability, or religious reasons. Individuals who do not meet CMS vaccination requirements are not eligible and should not apply for this position but are encouraged to apply for other non-healthcare positions at UT Southwestern for which they qualify.

Job Duties

Conducts and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including psychological status.
Synthesizes data and utilizes evidence to develop, implement, and evaluate the patient plan of care, including ordering and interpreting laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic studies/results.
Demonstrates proficiency in technical/procedural skills, as appropriate based on specialty and training.
Provides relevant management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients, families and caregivers related to current care and preventive health measures.
Facilitates/participates in quality related initiatives through planned group processes, workshops, seminars, and staff meetings, to improve clinical and system practice performance.
Collaborates in research projects and protocols; and routinely applies evidence based best practices to patient care.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in a clinical environment. The incumbent may be exposed to body fluids and infectious diseases.

Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents in lieu of stated minimums require prior approval of Vice President for Human Resources Administration or his/her designee.

This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code ยง51.215.
