JOB SUMMARY

To provide education and training to facility staff, as it relates to accepted standards of practice, current facility policy and procedures, and State and Federal regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess a current, unencumbered License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required, Master of Science in Nursing preferred.
At least one year of previous clinical and direct care experience working in Long Term Care, or related healthcare field.
Must possess current CPR certificate or become certified within Ninety (90) days of employment. Certified CPR Instructor preferred.
Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner.
Must possess leadership, supervisor ability. Willingness to work harmoniously with all personnel.
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions and to take directive action when circumstances warrant such action.
Must possess a valid Illinois Driver's License, vehicle, and the willingness to travel within the City of Chicago and the surrounding suburbs and other areas as designated.
Possess excellent communication abilities though listening, speaking, and writing skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Must maintain an advanced working knowledge of facility policies and procedures to effectively develop and implement training and education as needed.
PCC champion. Will review and work with new nurses on PCC test in order to receive log in.
Regularly attend and participate in the facility QAPI meetings to identify trends and patterns that are indicative of training and education needs.
Complete or participate in all competency evaluations for all certified nursing assistants and licensed nurses upon hire, annually, and as needed.
Participates in all facets of regulatory compliance activities as directed by the Administrator, or designee.
Will have knowledge of floor nurses' responsibilities and train new nurses.
Educate staff on the Interact Program.
Ability to complete a new resident admission and step in when warranted in this process or being a floor nurse in an emergency situation.
Educate monthly on mock code blue.
Educate nursing staff on any new policies and procedures implemented
Educate on immunizations.
Quarterly education on change of condition and reporting to physician or nurse practitioner, pressure ulcer prevention, infection control, hydration, pain, oxygen delivery system, trach care (if applicable), peri care, foley care, colostomy care etc.
Communicates regularly with the Director of Nursing, or designee to identify training and education needs related to all facility clinical programs.
Provides regularly scheduled in-service training and education regarding nursing programs, care, and services as needed.
Plans, organizes, and implements training and education programs to meet the strategic goals of the facility.
Participate in clinical on call rotation or Manager on Duty rotation as determined by the Administrator.
Ensures clinical competency of nursing staff through observed skills evaluation.
Provides supplemental directed in-service training to address individual performance and regulatory compliance areas as necessary.
Coordinate outside vendors with in-servicing -i.e., Dentist, Pharmacy, Medical Director, Nurse Practitioner, etc.
Participate in employee safety education and the reduction of worker's comp injuries/claims.
Participate in off-site resident screenings when warranted.
Host family/resident education session/events, ie. Diabetic management, nutrition, blood pressure management, etc.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, family members, personnel, and support agencies.
Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, young, emotionally upset and at times, hostile people.
Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move equipment, supplies, resident in excess of fifty (50) pounds throughout the day.
Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to the (HIV) AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
