Overview:
The Forensic Nurse Examiner provides forensic physical assessment and evidence collection to patients who are victimized by sexual assault, aged 13 and older, and interpersonal violence for all ages. This includes injury and photo documentation, crisis intervention and prophylactic medications with referrals as appropriate. The F.N.E. is expected to provide fact testimony for judicial proceedings. The F.N.E. must meet annual criteria to maintain certification (200 hours, 3 exams, 8 hours continuing education), as well as annual OSHA, PPD and Mercy mandatory requirements.

Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCEEducation and Work Experience:Must have at minimum a BSN degree in nursingMust have 18 months experience in nursing in any field (preferably emergency/ trauma, women's health experience)SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTSLicense Requirements:Must be a Registered Nurse in good standing in the State of MarylandCertification Requirements:FNE (Forensic Nurse Examiner) Certification through the Maryland Board of Nursing is strongly preferred.Must have current Healthcare Provider Level CPR certification.Age Specific Care Provided For:AdolescentsAdultsGeriatricsKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:Microsoft Word, Power Point, ExcelMicrosoft OutlookMeditech (if applicable to position)Epic (if applicable to position)Performance Manager/NetLearningComputer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize one or more of the following:Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner.Must be able to work independently and possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.Must possess the ability to effectively communicate and deal tactfully with other personnel, visitors, patients, physicians, customers, and the general public.Must be flexible, have personal integrity, and the ability to function effectively as a team with other employees.Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.Other Requirements:Injury assessment and documentationBasic photography skillsGood communication skillsMust be able to work collaboratively with the State's Attorney's office, law enforcement and patient advocates.Duties in enviroment with frequent exposure to potential violent situations and foul lanquage.Maintain patient confidentialityBasic phlebotomy skills
