Overview:
Nuclear Medicine Technologist Radiology - Nuclear Medicine Responsible for operating gamma cameras, related computer equipment, preparing radiopharmaceuticals, calculating and administering patient doses, analyzing data to produce test results, and miscellaneous related duties such as scheduling patients for procedures. This position provides services supporting the Radiology Mission of high quality, efficient care and emphasis on serving the unique needs of each customer. Responsibilities:
Supports the philosophy and objectives of Nationwide Children?s and the Radiology Department. Interprets these to patients, parents, and hospital staff.Schedules, prepares patients, and performs Nuclear Medicine procedures in accordance with established protocols.Operates gamma cameras and related equipment. Utilizes electronic information devices. Programs equipment for accurate imaging, determines correct anatomic area for imaging, and adjusts imaging protocols for patient age, weight, size, and special needs.Prepares radiopharmaceuticals when needed. Calculates patient doses and dispenses appropriate amount to patient. Performs venipunctures, accesses broviac catheters, implantofix devices and injects the radiopharmaceutical for imaging, utilizing universal precautions. Records all patient doses.Performs invitro diagnostic procedures using radiopharmaceuticals. Calculates results and reports these to the Radiologists.Catherizes patients for procedures according to the Nationwide Children?s catheterization policy.Assists the Radiology nurse in the administration of any procedure medications.Prepares all related documentation for procedures. Manipulates imaging data as prescribed by section protocols to analyze patient data. Initiates networking images to PACS and XFL.Consults with Radiologist to determine additional or special imaging protocols, preparation, and imaging techniques.Represents the department's customer service focus for both internal and external contacts. This shall include appropriate speech, mannerisms, and personal presentation as outlined in the Radiology Department Code of Conduct.Maintains stocking of accessory supplies, patient care items, and cleanliness of the Nuclear Medicine imaging areas. Performs required quality control of equipment. Initiates service requests and documents required information for Clinical Manager follow up.Orders radiopharmaceuticals as needed for patients. Consults with Nuclear Medicine Clinical Manager if there are questions or difficulties with radiopharmaceutical doses.Assists the Nuclear Medicine Clinical Manager in collecting and monitoring QA projects within the section.Mentors and monitors new employees and rotating students as directed by the Nuclear Medicine Clinical Manager.Complies with radiation policies as required by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Consults with the Radiation Safety Officer if unclear on any safety issues. Follows general safety policies.Complies with Nationwide Children's, Radiology, JCAHO, CMS, OSHA, and other regulatory guidelines and policies.Performs procedures for research and testing, assisting the Radiologist in documenting and maintaining research information.Maintains knowledge of current applications in the field of Nuclear Medicine Technology, electronic imaging through seminars, educational programs, and self-study.19. Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED Education:Must be a graduate of an accredited educational program for Nuclear Medicine Technology.Licensure:Registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Nuclear Medicine or with the N.M.T.C. B. (Active status)Possession of a valid Ohio Nuclear Medicine License.Current CPR certification.Experience:Pediatric experience is preferred.Skills:High level of communication and organizational skills to meet the demands of a modern pediatric Radiology department's patient care and customer service mission.MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSStanding/Walking/Sitting/Stooping/Kneeling/ Consistently (67-100%)Reaching/BendingLifting/Carrying/Pushing/Pulling up to 50 lbs.
