Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine

The Division of Pulmonary Diseases and Critical Care Medicine at the UNC School of Medicine is recruiting for an Assistant Professor to be responsible for the management of critically ill patients and patients with pulmonary disease and for conducting clinical and translational research relating to critical illness. Interest and skills in managing advanced critical illness are essential. Experience in managing general pulmonary diseases in the inpatient and outpatient settings is also beneficial.  The candidate should have previous training in conducting clinical and health services research, and a track record or plan for research funding is ideal. Excellent communication and collaborative skills are required. Candidates will have clinical duties and teaching responsibilities, but substantial effort will be devoted to conducting research. Excellent communication and collaborative skills are also required. Applicants must hold an MD or DO degree and have successfully completed fellowship training in Pulmonary Diseases and Critical Care Medicine. A Master’s Degree in Clinical Research or Public Health is preferred. Applicants must also be BC/BE in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases, and Critical Care Medicine.

Candidates will have inpatient clinical duties and teaching responsibilities, but substantial effort will be devoted to conducting research. This role will require excellent communication and collaborative skills.

The selected candidate will report directly to the Division Chief and must work effectively in a close teamwork setting and be flexible, solutions-oriented, and intellectually curious. He/she must maintain a commitment to continue to learn and train others in the field of pulmonary diseases and critical care medicine in terms of clinical advancements, research, and education

Education Requirements:

Applicants must hold an MD or DO degree and be board certified/board eligible in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases, and Critical Care Medicine. A Master’s Degree in Clinical Research or Public Health is preferred.

Qualifications and Experience:

Candidates must have successfully completed fellowship training in pulmonary diseases and critical care medicine.
