Certified First Assistant Registered Nurse RNFA, Surgery OR, Full Time, Days

Physicians Surgical Hospitals deliver quality care to the Texas Panhandle from two surgical centers, Panhandle Surgical Hospital and Quail Creek Surgical Hospital; one physical therapy center, Quail Creek Physical Therapy; and a state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging center, Advanced Imaging Center of Amarillo.

Responsibilities

Job Summary:

Surgical First Assistants (CSFA or RNFA) assist physicians in surgery and may perform the specific surgical task under professional supervision to include but are not limited to: opening and closing surgical sites, exposure of the surgical site, harvesting grafts, dissecting tissues, removing tissue, implanting devices and altering tissues/

The Certified Surgical First Assistant will perform the CST role when not utilized in the First Assistant role and are accountable to assist the RN and surgeon in preparing for surgical procedures, assist in surgical procedures, and prepare for the next case. The scrub technologist handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. He/she has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He/she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field.

An RN first assistant, works alongside the surgeon in the operating room providing direct patient care. Nurses need extensive surgical experience and additional training to qualify as first assistants.

Qualifications

Education/Licenses/Certifications:

CPR certified from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross
Current CSFA certification verified by NBSTSA
-OR-
Current License as RN in the State of Texas
Current CRNFA certification verified by CCI

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

2-years work experience as an CST/Scrub RN preferred
Previous CST-FA experience desired
Ability to rapidly evaluate and prioritize request of the healthcare team and physicians
Self motivated with a positive attitude; excellent teamwork
Ability to multi-task constantly and tolerate interruptions
Good organizational and follow-through skills
Exhibit good customer service skills; friendly
Good communication skills; able to communicate with patients, families, physicians and multiple healthcare team members
