CHEO, a 150-bed pediatric hospital in Ottawa, ON, Canada is looking for a child and adolescent psychiatrist to work on the 19-bed Acute Care Mental Health Inpatient Unit. The job is full-time and permanent with membership in the CHEO Psychiatry Associates.

Clinical Setting and Duties

The large multi-disciplinary care team includes 3 full-time psychiatrists, a family physician, psychologist, occupational therapist, and numerous social workers, nurses, and child and youth counselors. Each psychiatrist's job consists of co-leading a team of providers in the assessment, stabilization, treatment initiation, and discharge planning for each patient. Teaching and scholarly work are part of the position and are remunerated separately. Note: the position of Medical Director of the Inpatient Unit is also available for the qualified applicant.

Required Skills

The successful candidate will have experience with evidence-based psychopharmacologic and psychotherapeutic approaches suitable for brief inpatient care, be skilled in working on multi-disciplinary teams, and be open to an environment where continuous quality improvement is a key feature of the daily work. Bilingualism (English/French) highly desirable.

Training

MD from an accredited institution; experience in child psychiatry or certification from the Royal College or equivalent; career characteristics meeting the criteria for a faculty appointment in the uOttawa Department of Psychiatry.  

Remuneration and Benefits

This position is part of an Alternative Funding Plan (AFP); remuneration ranges from $296,000-400,000/year, depending on administrative stipends, teaching load, academic and clinical productivity; 6 weeks paid vacation; 2 weeks paid conference time; annual financial support for continuing professional development; research grant support. A relocation allowance and an additional signing bonus of $10,000 will be provided.
