Description:
This position exists to provide a broad range of comprehensive dental services for pediatric dental patients. The incumbent provides evaluation and treatment of various diseases, injuries, and malformations of the gums and related oral structures.

Clinical Practice:
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the examination and treatment of patients according to the standards of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
  • Performs final checks of x-rays and cleaning performed by hygienist.
  • Applies a minimum of one health literacy method when communicating with patients/clients.

Dental Procedures:
  • Performs restorative techniques for patients including fillings, crowns, temporary resin, full/partial dentures, bonding, etc.
  • Provides comprehensive dental care under anesthetic as determined by Indiana State law.

Documentation:
  • Records all treatments performed for patients.
  • Determines any changes in the health history of the patient pertaining to heart, blood pressure, respiratory, and drug therapy changes.
  • Maintains general records.

Supervision:
  • Provides supervision for the support staff.

Quality Assurance:
  • Participates in quality assurance mechanisms as assigned.
  • Incorporates continuous quality improvement principles into the improvement and operation of work processes.
  • Confers with dental staff on a regular basis regarding methods for improving dental services.

Requirements:
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Indiana licensure or intern permit required.
  • CPR Certification required.
  • DEA and CSR Certifications required.
  • DDS or DMD degree from an accredited dental school required.
  • Ability to understand basic clinic practices; techniques; and methods required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • Ability to work as part of a team required.
  • Ability to resolve issues in a positive fashion required.
  • Clinical experience preferred
  • Specialty Board Certification preferred.
  • Travel may be required.


Physical Requirement:
  • Works primarily inside, in a normal dental office environment and hospital operatory setting.
  • Able to be involved in degrees of prolonged standing, walking, sitting, bending, squatting, and stooping; as well as abilities of repeated bending, stooping and squatting.
  • Able to lift, push, and/or pull equipment, light to moderately heavy weight is a necessary function of this position.
  • Must be able to position and move patients following safety standards.
  • Able to perform duties during periods of varied and/or prolonged work hours.
  • Will be exposed to all patient elements.
  • Must have good eyesight with or without correction (20/30).
  • Must be able to read, write, hear, and communicate effectively in the English language by both orally and written.
