The Department of Pediatrics of the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria (UICOMP) seeks Pediatric Ophthalmology candidates for a position as Assistant/Associate/Professor of Clinical Pediatrics.  The candidate must hold a MD/DO degree or compatible international medical degree, be BC/BE or eligible for American Board of Ophthalmology certification within 5 years of hire in Ophthalmology and have successfully completed an AAPOS approved fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology. The candidate will hold or will be eligible for an Illinois physician license. This is a faculty position, as such requires clinical care, teaching medical students and residents, research and scholarly activities.

The position will provide clinical consultation services for pediatric patients in the OSF Children’s Hospital of Illinois

Clinical activities of the faculty are primarily concentrated at OSF Children’s Hospital, which is the primary pediatric teaching facility for UICOMP and is a 132-bed facility that offers over 50 pediatric programs and services.  These programs represent over 100 pediatric sub-specialist in 24 different disciplines, including the larges pediatric surgery program in Illinois.  OSF Children’s Hospital is the only full service tertiary hospital for children in downstate Illinois with a children and adult congenital heart disease program, Illinois Perinatal Center, a Level III neonatal intensive care unit and is designate as a Level I trauma center.

The Division of Pediatric Ophthalmology in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria is a dynamic, new division within department.  They not only provide pediatric ophthalmology care to Children's Hospital of Illinois, but to most of all of the state of Illinois eye outside the Chicago area.  There are very few full-time pediatric ophthalmology practices outside of the Chicago area for downstate Illinois and the division has a significant draw area for the state.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

• Seeing pediatric ophthalmology patients in clinical setting.
• Seeing adult patients with strabismus.
• Seeing inpatient pediatric patients at the Children’s Hospital of Illinois.
• Screening and treatment of premature neonatal patients for Retinopathy of Prematurity.
• Participate in teaching medical students, residents and other health professionals.
• Perform other duties of a University faculty member including committee assignments, curriculum development, student counseling and administration.

Minimum Qualifications

• MD/DO or compatible degree international medical degree.
• 3 years ophthalmology residency and 1 year AAPOS approved pediatric ophthalmology fellowship.
• Board Certified/Board Eligible in Ophthalmology.
• Eligible for licensure in Illinois.
• Clinical experience in the field of pediatric ophthalmology.
• Experience in teaching medical students and residents in the area of pediatric ophthalmology.
