The people of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) are united by a singular mission: ending cancer for life. Our specialized care teams provide personalized, compassionate, expert care to patients of all ages. Informed by basic research done at our Sloan Kettering Institute, scientists across MSK collaborate to conduct innovative translational and clinical research that is driving a revolution in our understanding of cancer as a disease and improving the ability to prevent, diagnose, and treat it. MSK is dedicated to training the next generation of scientists and clinicians, who go on to pursue our mission at MSK and around the globe.

The Brain Tumor Service in the Department of Radiation Oncology focuses on treating intracranial disease, both primary brain tumors and metastatic disease. The service has developed a wide-ranging research portfolio of
clinical, translational, and health services studies that examine the role of radiation in the context of brain malignancies and brain metastases. The service also has constructed clinical guidelines on the indications for radiation and the optimal techniques, including ablative regimens such as stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) and stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) in the context of brain disease. The Brain Tumor Director will oversee the clinical and research operations of this service, which involves approximately 15 faculty across Manhattan and the regional sites. The Department treats approximately 11,500 patients across 7 locations, with 60 faculty members. This position will involve approximately 25-50% clinical effort and 50-75% research/administration, depending on the candidate’s credentials and research effort.

As a qualified Radiation oncologist, your principal administrative duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee the development of clinical guidelines for the radiation treatment of patients with primary and metastatic brain tumors
  • Organize and lead weekly chart rounds for the service and ensure a high standard of quality for the treatment of primary brain tumors and metastatic brain disease
  • Formulate strategies to identify patients with primary brain tumors and metastatic brain disease, internally and externally, that benefit from radiation therapy. Note that the scope of treatment includes both benign and malignant tumors.
  • Work closely with the departmental Disease Site Directors in all primary tumor types to develop high-impact clinical trials that address the unmet needs of and improve outcomes in patients with primary brain tumors and metastatic brain disease
  • Collaborate with the early drug development (EDD) team within and outside of radiation oncology to develop phase I combination trials with radiation Direct research portfolio and serve as an advisor to the faculty within the MSKCC Brain Tumor Service in the form of clinical, translational, and health research service studies
  • Co-lead the established multidisciplinary brain metastases clinic in conjunction with neurosurgery
  • Lead the brain tumor efforts in both the inpatient and outpatient settings, including participation on the inpatient radiation oncology team.
  • Investigate disparities and barriers to appropriate care among patients with metastatic disease, particularly those patients receiving radiation therapy.
