NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County , located in the heart of Brooklyn, accommodate more than 518,076 outpatient visits, more than 141,328 emergency room visits, and with 627 beds, more than 25,000 inpatient admissions annually. The hospital maintains a strong academic affiliation with SUNY Downstate Medical Center in order to maintain its high standards of healthcare delivery.

Kings County is located in the East Flatbush/Prospect-Lefferts section of Brooklyn, close to the 2 and 5 subways. Our patients are diverse, with the majority being afro-Caribbean. Most of our patients are native English speakers. Knowledge of French/Haitian Creole is helpful, but not required.
Responsibilities:
The Director of Child Inpatient Services provides clinical and administrative leadership for a vibrant array of services for children and adolescence needing Emergency or Inpatient Psychiatric Care at NYC H+H/ Kings County. The Director will foster an environment of inquiry for education of students, residents, fellows, and other trainees. He/she/they will guide strategic priorities to maintain focus on key strategic priorities including patient experience, access to care, increased market share, and improving financial stability.

Oversee Child Acute Inpatient Service functioning including, but not limited to:
  • Oversees function of the interdisciplinary treatment team to deliver safe and high-quality care
  • Develops and implements policies, procedures, and standard work guiding the delivery of care
  • Effects staff and program changes to ensure continuous quality improvement on the service
  • Coordinates professional staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage at all times
  • Provides supervision for Attending Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and allied health professionals
  • Monitors workload and work assignments
  • Liaises with other departments including CPEP, medical inpatient and ED, and oversees transfers to/from other facilities
  • Ensure timely application and court presentation for retention and treatment over-rides

Quality assurance, performance improvement and regulatory affairs:
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of standards for certification by regulatory agencies.
  • Works with staff to ensure compliance with corrective action plans.
  • Participates in relevant PI & QA activities and initiatives, both locally and in collaboration with hospital wide quality endeavors.
  • Maintains awareness of performance improvement indicator and leads interventions and initiatives to meet goals for the service.
  • Prepares annual report for the service.
  • In collaboration with risk management reviews major incidents on the service and leads and monitors relevant corrective action when needed.
  • Works with all staff to ensure timely and adequate medical record keeping and monitors the quality of documentation.
  • Provides clinical consultation and supervision as needed to staff.
  • Conducts and coordinates tier reviews of complex cases.

Education and supervision:
  • Maintains and updates a set of practice guidelines including administration of medication in accordance with best practices that address the indication, contradictions screening and monitoring procedures, dose requirements and expected outcomes.
  • Ensures that the pharmacological components of treatment plans reflect the exercise of professional judgement for the medication treatment including diagnosis, target symptoms, risk and benefits of particular medication, and consideration of alternate treatments.
  • Ensures that the rationale for each patient's course of treatment is documented by the assigned clinician
  • Teach and supervise psychiatry trainees and medical students
Qualifications:
  • MD or DO Degree, License to practice medicine in the State of New York.
  • Board Certification in Adult Psychiatry
  • Board certified or Eligible in Child Psychiatry
