Sign On Bonus $3,750 # Children#s Hospital of New Orleans, a leader in Pediatric care throughout the Southeast region, is currently seeking a dynamic Licensed Practical Nurse#for Outpatient Nursing. The mission of making care available to all children has allowed Children#s to grow as an organization. # # # Summary Provide appropriate medical care and counseling of the patient in a relaxed and caring manner, and provides physicians with professional, responsible support.# The delivery of care will be provided under stable, and predictable conditions and within the framework of a patient care assignment.## Care will be provided for patients from infancy to young adults. ## POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES # Participates in the care of patients under the supervision of the Clinic Manager and / or Clinical Leader; and in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team. Measures # records appropriate vital signs based on departmental policy and patient age.## Identifies abnormal values based on age and developmental level and reports findings to the appropriate medical provider. Participates in clinic flow, including but not limited to: assisting with patient arrival to the clinic, assisting in and performing patient procedures, scheduling new and follow-up patient appointments, facilitating a smooth patient exit from clinic. Prepares patients for examination, treatment and/or procedures. Observes patients for signs and symptoms of abuse/neglect and report immediately in accordance with policy. Recognizes emergencies and responds appropriately in adherence to organizational policy # procedure. Provides non-complex procedures, according to clinic policy # documented competency, such as simple dressing changes. Provides for comfort needs of patients with consideration of age and special needs. Demonstrates a working knowledge of clinic equipment, including preparation of equipment; testing of equipment for safety prior to use on patient; cleaning and disinfecting of equipment (between patients and at clinic#s end) according to hospital policy. Administers prescribed medication and / or vaccinations via ordered route in accordance with department policy; Considers patient growth and development and uses proper technique for infant, toddler, school-aged, adolescent, young adult and adult patients. Properly collects, prepares, and secures specimens for point of care clinic testing and / or transport when necessary. Performs point of care testing per Laboratory Point of Care Testing Manual Guidelines. Maintains medication inventory and demonstrates proper disposal of expired medications. Properly stores medications according to department policy and ensures medication safety when using multi-dose vials and containers.# Maintains refrigerator / freezer monitoring logs to ensure proper storage environment for all medications and vaccines.# Follows departmental standards when a patient has adverse reaction in clinic and when noting medication error. Reinforces provider education / instruction with patient and / or patient#s caregiver. Organizes work and makes effective use of time. Completely and accurately documents clinical tasks, testing, and procedures. # Documents appropriately in the patient medical record according to established departmental guidelines. Maintains privacy of patient personal health information by ensuring computer screens are secure in the absence of medical / nursing / clinical staff. Properly navigates Electronic Medical Record to obtain laboratory and radiology results, medical records, update patient demographic data, and schedule follow-up appointments. Completes proper paperwork including documentation of waived testing quality control procedures.# Prepares safety reports when warranted or as directed by the clinic manager / designee. Demonstrates professional ownership and commitment to the principles and core values of guest relations. # Demonstrates honesty, promptness, dependability, courtesy and respect in interactions with patients, caregivers, customers, co-workers, and staff. Projects a positive image # attitude by communicating in a courteous and professional manner, and responding with an appropriate tone of voice, facial expressions and gestures (including telephone communication).# Recognizes when others require information, direction, or assistance and offers help. Promotes a professional image by adhering to hospital dress code and division policies on standard of dress. Consults and keeps clinic manager informed of clinic activities, requirements, and problems. Reports to clinic manager prior to leaving the assigned clinical area. Demonstrates ability to manage patient and/or co-worker complaints in a calm, positive, non-judgmental manner, and reports these events to clinic manager on a daily basis. Maintains strict patient confidentiality exemplified by discussing issues only with appropriate persons and in a place and manner, which reflects respect for the individual, and his or her right to privacy. Assist with compliance to safety, environmental, infection control, quality improvement, and other regulatory standards. # Implements standard and transmission-based precautions, as outlined in Policy IC # 14.0: Standard # Transmission Based Precautions. Performs hand hygiene, as outlined in Policy IC # 3.0:# Hand Hygiene. Ensures patient safety during clinic visits, in accordance with Policy NADM - 38:# Patient Safety. Maintains a clean clinic working environment. Reports any safety hazards or violations in patient or clinic environment to clinic manager or designee.
