The American University of Beirut (AUB) Faculty of Medicine (FM) and Medical Center is seeking a recognized clinical and academic leader for the position of Chairperson of the Department of Radiation Oncology.

The Department of Radiation Oncology at AUB-FM is dedicated to providing patients with the highest quality radiation treatment, leveraging the latest medical and scientific advances and state-of-the-art radiotherapy technologies. The Department maintains close collaborations with the Naef K. Basile Cancer Institute (NKBCI), Children’s Cancer Institute (CCI), and other departments within AUB involved in cancer care and cancer research. Additionally, it fosters collaborations with local, regional, and international cancer centers, including a partnership with the Nabih Berri Governmental University Hospital (NBGUH) in Nabatieh, which serves the community in South Lebanon.

The Department has ongoing significant research and educational activities. The departmental research initiatives in cancer focus on radiation oncology in clinical trials, medical physics, and radiobiology. The Department is also deeply committed to academic excellence in clinical training, offering a Residency Program in Radiation Oncology accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education International (ACGME-I), and a Residency Program in Medical Physics.

The candidate for the position of Chairperson of the Department of Radiation Oncology should be an accomplished clinical and academic leader with a strong foundation in radiation oncology, proficiency in the latest and most advanced radiation therapy methodologies, and an operational understanding of state-of-the-art radiation technologies. The candidate must hold a medical degree with subsequent formal clinical training in radiation oncology, preferably from an accredited residency program. Interested candidates should have leadership experience marked by a distinguished record in clinical practice, education, and research, and should have achieved a recognized academic rank, preferably at the Associate Professor or Professor level. Essential skills include exceptional communication, teamwork, administrative, and managerial abilities. The applicant must also have a proven track record in mentoring faculty and trainees, fostering academic growth, and a commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion within the academic environment.

Applicants should submit the following documents: 1) curriculum vitae; 2) a letter of intent, including a summary of accomplishments in the areas of clinical service, teaching, research, program development, and administrative management; 3) a proposed vision and strategic plan for the Department of Radiation Oncology at AUB-FM*; and 4) the names of at least four references.
