Joint Replacement Orthopedic Surgeon

Maine Medical Partners Orthopedics is seeking a Board Certified/Eligible Fellowship trained Orthopedic Surgeon to join 6 orthopedic surgeons in their Division of Joint Replacement Surgery.

MMP – Orthopedics is a multi-disciplinary team of surgeons, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and administrative staff committed to providing the highest quality musculoskeletal care to patients using evidence based measures.  The Orthopedics practice is comprised of 6 surgeons within the Joint Replacement Division, 3 Trauma and Fracture Care surgeons who are members of Maine Medical Center’s (MMC) Level One Trauma Program; 2 surgeons in the Sports Medicine Program, one Hand surgeon, and one Foot and Ankle surgeon.

The Joint Replacement Center at MMC is Maine's leader in several advanced surgeries including the muscle sparing anterolateral approach for total hip replacement, minimally invasive total knee and shoulder replacement surgery. The group has a dedicated Joint Replacement Center in Portland and over the last year has transitioned select cases to our Surgery Center in Scarborough where outpatient hip, knee and shoulder replacements are performed. We are increasing the complexity and volume of primary and revision cases being done at MMC, solidifying our position as the premier center in the state and region for these procedures.  A recent Medicare study placed MMC among the top 1 percent of hospitals in a national survey for its quality of care on both hip and knee replacement surgeries, as measured by patient readmissions, complications, and cost of care.  The surgeons at MMPs perform over 2,400 hip, knee and shoulder  replacement surgeries each year, the highest volume of any hospital in Maine and the second highest in New England behind the Baptist Hospital in Boston.

MMC has 637 licensed beds and is the state’s leading tertiary hospital and Level One Trauma Center, with a full complement of residencies and fellowships and is an integral part of the Tufts University Medical School.  The successful candidate would have an academic appointment at Tufts University School of Medicine.

The successful candidate will be employed by MMP, a subsidiary of MMC and Maine’s largest multi-specialty group.  MMP serves the health care needs of patients throughout Maine and Northern New England.  This high quality team of 600 physicians and 350 advanced practice professionals provide a wide range of hospital based, primary, specialty, and sub-specialty adult and pediatric care delivered throughout a network of 54 locations across the State and acts as a regional referral network.Situated on the Maine coast, Portland offers the best of urban sophistication combined with small-town friendliness.  The area provides four season recreational opportunities, such as skiing, hiking, sailing, and miles of beautiful beaches.  Just 100 miles north of Boston, this is an exceptionally diverse and vibrant community.  Portland is consistently voted one of the top spots in America to raise a family.
