JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State is currently seeking a strong leader and top frontline fundraiser in the role of Director of Development to engage grateful patients and friends as partners in supporting Penn State Health community hospitals in our East Region. As a member of the Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DDAR), you play an integral role in Penn State's future and contribute to one of the most successful fundraising and alumni relations operations in the country.

Charged with guiding and overseeing all development activities for Penn State Health's East Region, which includes Lancaster Medical Center, St. Joseph Medical Center and affiliated care sites, this position reports directly to the Senior Director of Medical Development and receives direction from East Region president and leadership on fundraising objectives and priorities. The Director of Development also works with other partners across the University, Penn State Health and the College of Medicine, and central development offices. With significant experience not only in healthcare and community fundraising, and with an entrepreneurial and ambitious vision for Penn State Health, the Director of Development will:
  • Articulate Penn State Health's needs, ambitions, and values, including diversity, equity, and inclusion, through excellent informal and formal communications, including written proposals;
  • Commit to learning or refining a masterful skill set in grateful patient and healthcare fundraising, creating relationships with providers focused on building trust and understanding about engagement with potential supporters;
  • Engage health system leadership, physicians, and providers in the fundraising process, advising on strategy for gift commitments benefitting the hospitals and care sites;
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of the use of protected health information in fundraising and provide guidance in this area to clinical staff at the hospitals when engaging patient donors;
  • Personally build a portfolio of major and leadership individual, corporate and foundation prospects, meeting gift officer metrics including a total commitment goal of at least $600,000 annually;
  • Work with Penn State Health and College of Medicine DDAR team to develop, implement, and manage events, facility tours, stewardship initiatives, and relationship-building for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for donors and prospects;
  • Serve as an ambassador for Penn State Health and its priorities and values.

This position minimally requires a bachelor's degree or higher and 3+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The preferred candidate will also have experience major gifts fundraising, preferably in healthcare. The successful candidate will also have:
  • A track record of success in securing major gifts and meeting fundraising goals;
  • A dedication to and understanding of the skills required to build relationships with diverse communities;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion in healthcare;
  • Experience in working on goal-oriented teams and in planning development strategies;
  • Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills, with a particular sensitivity to sophisticated, high-net worth audiences;
  • Impeccable writing, presentation skills, and ability to use various technologies;
  • A passion for healthcare and an understanding of complex institutions;
  • A working knowledge of the local philanthropic and healthcare community;
  • A commitment to professional development, learning, and being mentored.

Operation of a motor vehicle as part of the position's duties and a valid driver's license are required. Successful completion of a motor vehicle records check, in addition to standard background checks, is also required, as well as the following: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.

This position is based between three offices: Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center (Reading, PA), Penn State Lancaster Medical Center (Lancaster, PA) and Penn State Health & College of Medicine's central office (Hershey, PA).

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:
$76,700.00 - $115,100.00
