Thoracic Surgeon

The Department of Surgery, Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, and the Lifespan health system are seeking a fulltime General Thoracic Surgeon. Academic rank commensurate with experience will be considered for candidates that qualify as Assistant, Associate, or full Professors.  The thoracic surgery program will consider these multiple levels to allow for programmatic and departmental leadership candidates to be considered with the capability to build outstanding programs throughout southeastern New England.  The Lifespan hospital system includes adult thoracic patients from Rhode Island Hospital as the central academic medical center and includes The Miriam and Newport Hospitals for critical access points and other pulmonary and oncology programs.

Rhode Island is known for its strong pulmonary divisions in the Department of Medicine, as well as its outstanding oncology programs that have now been enhanced by a comprehensive cancer center and the internationally recognized Brown oncology group.  Pulmonary, inflammation and oncology research is accomplished clinically and through basic science labs that have attracted significant NIH funding over the years.  The Department seeks to enhance that through this surgical program.

Board certification in Thoracic Surgery or eligibility by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery is required.  The candidate must demonstrate a commitment to an academic career that includes mentoring medical students and residents, and the candidate is expected to collaborate or direct individuals interested in the pursuit of basic or clinical science research.
