Float Medical Assistant (MA) Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) - Twin Cities - Based, Travel across MN

Starting Wage (additional pay dependent on experience)

MA $18/hr + float pay

LPN $22/hr + float pay

RN $26/hr + float pay

Under direct supervision of the Float Team Manager, the Float MA, Float LPN or Float RN performs routine health center duties associated with a reproductive and sexual health program within the scope of their MA training, LPN licensure or RN licensure. Provides excellent customer service. Float MAs, Float LPNS and Float RNs are advocates in implementing our mission of "To affirm the right to reproductive and sexual health and freedom for all by providing excellent care, trusted education, and fierce advocacy." They may perform other related duties to support health center operations as assigned.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Float MA Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* Interview and screen patients, conduct patient history review, document in electronic medical record, and prepare patients for examinations/procedures. Monitor patient vital signs.
* Perform routine laboratory tests including venipuncture. Communicate lab test results to clinician.
* Process receipt of incoming lab results.
* Set up exam rooms and prepare patients for their clinical visits.
* Provide factual patient education. Provide additional education after clinician or RN assessment. Including explanations of all FDA approved birth control methods. Provide unbiased specific instruction on the client's selected birth control method.
* Assist clinician as needed.
* Provide contraceptive supplies, medications including injectables, perform venipuncture, and manage patients with medical emergencies per PPNCS protocols under direct supervision of licensed nurse practitioner, physician's assistant, physician, or registered nurse.
* Assure inventory control of clinic and contraceptive supplies including ordering, stocking, inventory reconciliation and tracking.
* Communicate PPNCS protocols, policy and procedures to clinicians and staff as appropriate. Assure clinic manuals are up to date (e.g., clinic, lab, safety).
* Provide factual, unbiased information to patients seeking abortion.
* Describe the difference between medication and surgical abortion.
* Inform patients in a non-directive manner about all options available to them in the event of an unintended pregnancy and make a referral for service based on the patients' needs.
* All health center staff are expected to participate in the onboarding of new employees and supporting the cross-training of established employees.
* Follow all laws regarding mandatory reporting.
* Participate in team approach to patient care working cooperatively with others to achieve productivity standards and exceptional customer service.
* Maintain a working knowledge of Planned Parenthood policies and procedures and apply these to patient and clinic services.

Additional Essential Functions for Float Medical Assistants Working at Surgical Sites:

* As appropriate assist the physician with surgical procedures, monitor patient stability and perform macroscopic exam of tissue post-procedure.
* Supervise and observe patients post procedure recovery
* Comply with all laws governing services
* Comply with all policies, procedures, rules and applicable laws and regulations governing abortion and other care services

Float LPN Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* Supervise and observe patients post procedure recovery
* Comply with all laws governing services
* Comply with all policies, procedures, rules and applicable laws and regulations governing abortion and other care services

Float RN Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* Interview and screen patients, conduct patient history review, document in electronic medical record, prepare patients for examinations/procedures. Assess, address, or triage patient complaints. Monitor patient vital signs.
* Perform routine laboratory tests including venipuncture. Communicate lab test results. Assure appropriate follow-up of lab reports. Process receipt of incoming lab results.
* Provide factual patient education. Provide additional education in consultation with clinician or physician assessment. Including explanations of all FDA approved birth control methods. Provide unbiased specific instruction on the client's selected birth control method.
* Inform patients in a non-directive manner about all options available to them in the event of an unintended pregnancy and provide supporting materials and/or education for service based on the patients' needs.
* Provide factual, unbiased information to clients seeking abortion.
* Describe the difference between medication and surgical abortion.
* Refer patients per protocol, perform follow-up functions and assure complete documentation of care plan.
* Provide contraceptive supplies, medications including injectables, perform venipuncture, and manage patients with medical emergencies per PPNCS protocols. Assure inventory control of clinic and contraceptive supplies including ordering, stocking, and tracking as assigned.
* Communicate PPNCS protocols, policy and procedures to clinicians and staff as appropriate. Assure clinic manuals are up to date (e.g., clinic, lab, safety, MS&G).
* Maintain a working knowledge of Planned Parenthood policies and procedures and apply these to patient and clinic services.
* Supervise nursing functions as delegated by the Health Center Manager or clinician/physician.
* All health center staff are expected to participate in the onboarding of new employees and supporting the cross-training of established employees.

Additional Essential Functions for Float RNs Working at Surgical Sites:

* Administer mild and moderate sedation.
* As appropriate assist the physician with surgical procedures, monitor patient stability, and perform macroscopic exam of tissue post-procedure.
* Supervise and assess patient's post procedure recovery.
* ACLS certification required before working independently in the recovery area (at sites providing moderate sedation)
* Follow all state laws regarding mandatory reporting.
* Comply with state laws governing abortion services.
* Perform other clinical skills within the scope of their training and applicable state laws.
* After 6 months of employment at one of our surgical center locations, participate in providing telephonic coverage for those services provided by PPNCS that require 24 Hour Emergency Call coverage

Commitment/Requirements

Scheduling and hours commitments will depend on FTE (Full-Time Equivalent) or regular scheduled hours of the float position. There is the option to work above the scheduled FTE if extra hours are available. The Regular Float would be assigned health center hours within the assigned area and travel is an expectation of this role. A Float will have shifts that are predetermined in accordance with PPNCS' schedule publication timeline. Floats may be asked to work alternative shifts at comparable locations and times should staffing needs change.

Hours commitments will be met on a pay period basis, provided that the availability criteria are met. If health center shifts are unavailable then, whenever possible, other projects may be assigned at any of the health centers in the PPNCS system or remote work such as data entry or audit work in order to fulfill the hours commitment to the extent feasible

Benefits

* This position is benefits eligible.
* PPNCS will provide overnight accommodations if assignment is 100 miles from home location or if PPNCS determines travel conditions are unsafe, i.e. weather.
* Will be paid for travel time consistent with the PPNCS Travel practice.

Work Hours

Full-time position working 32 hours per week. Tentative schedule: Varied: Monday-Friday between 7:45-8:30pm and every third weekend per month from 9:45am-3:30pm This position is eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, flex accounts, long-term disability, life insurance, PTO, extended illness leave, volunteer time off, paid holidays, and a 403(b) retirement plan.

Physical Work Intensity and Work Environment

Level 3, Active - Majority of time is spent standing and/or moving throughout an office environment. Occasional physical demands include; lifting of 10-20 lbs., extended periods of standing, walking, and lifting. The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Required Qualifications

FLOAT MA

* High School diploma or equivalent
* Current CPR certification
* Completion of a Medical Assisting diploma program, Associate degree in Medical Assisting, has equivalent military experience or past EMT/Paramedic licensure.

FLOAT LPN

* Current active, unencumbered LPN license in state you are applying for the role
* Current CPR certification

FLOAT RN

* Current active, unencumbered RN license in state you are applying for the role
* Current CPR certification
* ACLS certification required before working independently in the recovery area (at sites providing moderate sedation)

Desired Qualifications

* Reproductive health experience
* ACLS certification
* Bilingual language skills (Spanish, Hmong, and Somali preferred)
* Experience working with NextGen or other EHR systems
