Brief Bio  

He practiced general medicine in Rochester, NY for 15 years before joining the faculty at Quillen in 2000. During his time in Rochester, he was volunteer faculty for the medical school and served on a number of community boards. Since joining the faculty here, he has built a practice in Kingsport, TN, and has served the University and community in numerous capacities including the practice Board of Directors, Division Chief of the Kingsport General Medicine Division, Clinic Medical Director, President of the Medical Staff at Holston Valley Medical Center, and Department of Medicine Chair for Holston Valley Medical Center. Jeffrey A. Summers, MD FACP is a tenured Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University.

A cum laude graduate from Hobart College in Geneva, New York Dr. Summers obtained a B.Sc. with a double major in Mathematics and Chemistry. He also received the Highest Honors for the development of a computer software package. In 1982, he graduated from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus, Ohio, and pursued his Internal Medicine residency through the University of Rochester program at Rochester General Hospital in Rochester, NY.  Dr. Summers was board certified in Internal Medicine September 1985 and later became a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Summers' academic interests are predominantly in the area of mathematical applications to medicine. The author of over 25 medical applications, he has interests in biostatistics and mathematical modeling of disease processes. He has received a number of teaching awards.
